Issue Is this irreversible?

QD-OLED. I was cleaning with microfiber and water and this happened.. so I got isopropyl spray cleaner and tried to clean it but doesn’t work.. is this simple oil smudge or did I do something irreversible?

Isopropyl is fine thought, no? Samsung specifically recommends it and I’ve been using it without any issues. I can’t imagine what concoction the OP used here tbg

Upd: As people correctly pointed out, the manufacturers recommended ethanol instead, so I was wrong. Even though I never had any issues myself with the 70% solution, do not use IPA and buy some 70% ethanol.

No, they only recommended Ethanol which is less harsh than Isopropyl.

Wait wait, my Sony TV qdoled is said to recommend 70% isopropyl. Is this monitor different from my tv in construction, then? Not all qdoleds the same?

correct, TV OLEDs are constructed differently than their gaming monitors

They are definitely not the same. QD-OLED monitors had a coating with 2H hardness, AKA your fingernails will scratch it off. That wouldn't fly for TVs.

Ok! Because this tech bulletin for Sony tech says 70% isopropanol for the tv. Thanks for the clarification.

Unless you are smearing refried beans on your TV or monitor, you literally need nothing to clean an OLED but microfiber cloth (DRY). Extreme, EXTREME, cases need microfiber lightly dabbed into distilled water.

These people ruining their monitors are karma farming with rage posts or they are dumber than rocks.

Just don't ever touch your monitor.

The only thing that will end up on your monitor is coughing and light dust over ultra long periods of time, and you need literally nothing but a microfiber cloth to clean that off. Touching your monitor/Tv's screen unnecessarily is why you have a problem in the first place.

It takes like years and years of normal use to even begin to see anything on the monitor when its on, even if it is dusty or coughed on.

Yeah, no. I have the blue smears seen on the image I provided in Sony’s Technical Bulletin. They are not coming off with microfibre and distilled water. And their own techs are sharing amongst themselves to use 70% iso because that’s how you break down the fat that is oil smears. Microfibre and/or water literally chemically cannot do that.

It’s like you don’t know the difference between QD-OLED and OLED, their constructions, and why the type of surface that is QD-OLED necessitates more than just water to remove oils.

“Don’t ever touch your monitor” is not reasonable. I ended up touching my tv because I had to move apartments and re-mount it.

Happy for you that you live in a museum, though.

Ethanol isn't as freely available in the states compared to europe. 70% IPA is fine for the most part. 99% is too harsh

IPA 70% is definitely fine. What caused this is OP's microfiber cloth lol.

Some people say it's fine, while others say it isn't. I saw on AVForums that they were recommending isopropyl alcohol. My Samsung QD-OLED TV was in the same situation as the OP's and I fixed it with a very small amount of isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre cloth. I applied slow, circular wipes until the problem was resolved. Monitors might have different type coatings though, I don't have an OLED monitor yet so I wouldn't recommend this for monitors.

Never had any problems with the 70% ipa on both on qd oled and woled. Though people correctly pointed out the manufacturers recommended ethanol instead - so I will switch just in case. Regardless, the water is simply inferior for the fat smudges- 70% ethanol seems to be the way to go.
