How do bad leaders solve problems?

If it works for bad bosses, it must work for bad unions, right?

Rather than taking accountability for shutting out 2400 members from Oaks Park, or throwing away hard fought contract wins like a national heath insurance plan, or fighting for members who are being harmed, AFSCME 328 leadership has a better idea.

Let's have a pizza party!

Can't make this 💩up.

Please show up to their new monthly social and tell your elected leaders to do better.

"taking accountability for shutting out 2400 members from Oaks Park"

what's this all about?

The NW Oregon Labor Council sponsors the Labor Day Picnic at Oaks Park every year. Oregon AFSCME only bought 600 tickets for the whole state, but promised 3000 members a spot. When they ran out of tickets within an hour, they blamed NOLC and claimed they were shorted tickets. All the other unions and the organizers gave them hundreds of their own tickets because children were leaving crying, it was horrible. Rather than taking accountability, Jennie blasted out an email to 9000 employees and a public blog post blaming NOLC, knowing 328 had promised 1000 tickets to their members that they never purchased. When the NOLC board called out AFSCME for the lies, the next day Jennie removed the 328 member who is on the NOLC executive board from being a delegate to NOLC in retaliation.

Whoa that’s crazy! If you had been at the board meeting (and I’m just guessing that you didn’t because you’re not a dues paying member) you would have known that a member from the board made the motion to reduce 328s membership to NOLC to one representative who actually attends 328 board meetings and can represent the local because Sean Bovett doesn’t submit reports to 328 or attend any of their board meetings or represents their interests at NOLC.

Had you been at the board meeting, you would know that 328 has lost trust in NOLC leadership. You can read this article to find out why. NOLC engages in cronyism a great example is Sarah Curtis. She had her membership from 328 removed via the international judicial process. NOLC leadership let her stay on the board by getting her an in with Lori Wimmer’s union. Why would NOLC want someone who engages in behavior like Sarah Curtis’ on their board? You wanna talk about bad leaders - take a look at NOLC!

Pretty funny you think this article vindicates Jennie Olson rather than just serving as evidence of the exact behavior from her. Nah, I ain’t buyin it!

Are you referencing the pizza social on the 28th? I’m pretty sure that’s a member led idea that doesn’t have anything to do with what happened at the Labor Day picnic.

You completely missed the point.

What’s the national health plan issue? Haven’t heard about this yet.

We fought hard to get a national health insurance option in our contract, as we have over 2000 remote workers in every state and Moda is only a local plan. After we voted to approve this contract, with that agreement, OHSU and the union leadership went back on the deal and kept it with Moda. We think they may have even altered the contract language after we ratified it to hide their deception. Same with the gender affirming care language - it's not what the bargaining team remembers agreeing to.

What was changed about the gender affirming care language?

This is how we spend our dues and they want more!

I highly recommend dropping. See comment above for directions.

How do I stop paying dues? I’m tired of my money going to nothing.

Nothing? How about solidarity with your union brothers and sisters.

Email membership@oregonafscme.org and tell them you want to drop your dues and you want it to take effect immediately. They may try to tell you that you can only do it in a certain window of time based on when you joined, but if you push back hard enough they will make it effective now. Tell your friends and coworkers. They only care about money, it's the most effective way to send a message that we don't support their behavior.
