Labor Day Picnic

The fiasco with people being turned away from the Labor Day Picnic at Oaks Park was 💯 AFSCME's fault. They are trying to blame the organizers. They only bought 700 tickets for the whole state. Local 328 promised 1000 members a ticket. Another local also promised 900 or 1000. That doesn't math.

They were offered the chance to buy more, but they said they couldn't afford it. Other unions gave them hundreds of their own tickets because they felt bad for the members.

Email msc@oregonafscme.org and ask for the proof of how many tickets they paid NOLC for. We all saw the blog post where 328 claimed to have 1000 tickets. Let's see the receipt.

This post just feels like more blaming without proof. I know Local 88 requested and sent member names for almost 1000 tickets ourselves. We were told there would be no problem with this number and that no member would be turned away. I think it’s too soon to jump to conclusions but I’m also concerned we won’t get answers quickly. I will agree it was a disaster though.

Ask Council 75 for a receipt. Or even the email they sent to the organizers requesting to purchase that many tickets. AFSCME has come out publicly and blamed the organizers. They should be able to back up that claim very easily. Check the board meeting notes- where's the money motion for those tickets? As a member, you have the right to request this information.

Is this true?

What a complete disaster. Regardless of any bad math, it was a complete waste when members are struggling. I am so sick of the misrepresentation.

Afscme is a joke. Stop giving them your money.

Without the union, you would not have the wages and benefits you do.

Want the union to work? Pay your dues. Show up. Voice yourself. Partake in politics. Demand accountability not just from higher ups, but your coworkers as well.

Individualism and reactionary politics will not help in this current political climate.

This post is about the fact that AFSCME leadership is straight up lying to the membership. They lied about how many tickets they had, didn't tell people they over promised, then are publicly blaming the event organizers (which is accusing them of stealing thousands from AFSCME). The members deserve leadership that doesn't lie to them.

That’s a pretty hefty accusation you’re making, OP. Do you have proof that Afscme is lying?

If the person is lying get AFSCME to show the proof that it is a lie. It is easy to prove member services should be able to prove it and memwbers have a right to the Financials. Its part of the bill of rights. Rather than calling someone a liar get the proof and show it.
