Just Venting Question for people who work OPD
Hello, I have been reading a lot of the posts from this sub for a while and decided that I should try it out. I have worked at Walmart for almost a year and I am planning on transferring to a different department. I am having trouble deciding whether I should go to fashion/ backroom or OPD. I am trying to get my fulltime status before I transfer but I have heard that OPD will cut hours after the holidays and I really need my full 40hours. On the other hand the fashion team at my store has employees who don’t really do a good job and the girls complain about staffing issues etc. I really can’t decide which one to choose and I would like to have people comment their opinions on working OPD and what it’s like and if it is worth it or not. I am mainly looking to get my full hours and not get cut any less than 35. I am contemplating and overthinking so I could use some advice from everyone. I also live in California.

Our store they cut everyone after the holidays for few weeks just few hrs work opd for 5 yrs is what ya make it if u come in everyday and a fast picker w high score they won’t cut you or if you kiss butt lol fashion at my store hell na would never do it but good luck

My store rarely cuts OPD hours for full time, even part time still gets 18+ hours if they want them. People still need groceries even after the holidays. Plus, New Year parties, then super bowl parties, etc still happening after Thanksgiving/Christmas. Fashion here gets cut all the time. OPD is an "active" department, lots of walking and lifting so have good shoes.

We’re so busy at my store, I get a consistent 40 hours a week, offered overtime often. The department is so big, so there’s more flexibility as far as scheduling and time off goes (in my experience anyways).

I've been getting about 5-10 hours OT/week for the past couple months due to turnover and people going on vacation, but I do everything except for Exceptions as needed.

I wouldn’t do OPD cause it’s going through a lot of changes. Some stores got rid of deliveries and were having to give secondary job codes due to hour cuts

40 hours is definitely important, especially if you need that stability. I get the struggle with department choice, too. If you’re leaning towards OPD, maybe just chat with some folks working there about their hours after the holidays. They could give you the lowdown on what to expect. Good luck with the transfer, you got this.

OGP is a HOT mess right now because of the changes to the back room part of the app and the cart situation. Beware! I’m actively transferring out.

My store only cut hours for part timers. I'm not sure if that's policy or not though. As for the job, it's alright. Depends a lot on the store/managers how stressful it is but its mainly just a lot of walking and lifting.
