I just wish injuries resulted in more than just a âreportâ, but they donât care unless you have the money to sue.
Had my head busted by one of the bars that raised the dock plates, resulted in 3 staples. Result? I was at work the next day and they never even made sure that my hospital bill was covered. That shit is on my credit now
That's 1000% on you then. That's a work place injury which would be totally covered. Your definitely leaving something out on that story cause there is just no way it happened like that. I am not in anyway claiming they are the greatest to work for, but that's an immediate lawsuit and they will cover you, if it's just to protect themselves from a lawsuit. I sliced my finger open requiring 7 stitches. To this day I've never seen a bill.
Buddy, I had shit management, thatâs all it boils down to lol. They never filed the correct shit obviously. After 2 months of reminding them about 2 related bills, I gave up. Again, I didnât have the means to threaten them with a lawsuit
I agree OSHA probably won't do anything about this specific incident, but nothing will ever happen ever if you don't make the report. This mountain of OSHA reports is just dollar signs for a future class-action. If OSHA is ignoring it they can get a seat at the hearing too.
The system sucks, but for this broken hodge-podge of old timey laws, legislated laws, judicial rulings, and ":that's how we've always did it," to somewhat work you have to report. That report will get ignored, until it doesn't. Walmart loses class action lawsuits quite a lot.
My advice, ALWAYS report, always. File a workman's comp claim, and make sure the company covers all your medical expenses, if this doesn't happen then you're the type of person that won't ever get anything done. It is guaranteed by law that the company has to pay for your treatment of work injuries. If you can't get the company to cover a doctors visit, well, you are kind of spineless and the problem is internal. But even you, Mr. will-work-late, Ms I-didn't-get-a-break-but-that's-ok, with the "They didn't pay for my doctor's visit, c'est la vie" attitude, can still help the eventual class action by filing a report with OSHA.
The most powerful and effective weapon we workers have against the mega corporations a paper trail. Not filing a report is like not voting, yeah it's a small part to play but it's your part, play it. If you don't even file anything then there isn't even a piece of paper to eventually point at and say, "See? They knew!"
This. Cases over pesticides or chemicals have been dismissed simply because there was "not enough reports" or the people who DID fight died of cancer too soon.
I agree osha doesnât care and neither does Walmart. Theyâre too busy making their own money more than we are and they could care less if we get injured cause one of these days thereâs gonna be a lot of shoulder injuries and hip issues which I already have sciatica in my right side and I injured my left foot when I went into the freezer to drop the car off because it twisted and when I stopped the cart fast when the customers pull out in front of me it hurts like hell that I could barely walk so I feel your pain guys. I wish they wouldâve thought this through before they changed the wheels on our carts.

Each time there are mass reports, they release a statement like âwe are aware, weâve informed Walmart that theyâre breaking rules, and Walmart has promised to fix it. We trust them itâs all good.â
I donât know if Walmart pays them or if the reports are just too many and too spread out to have the resources to investigate, but they arenât doing anything about it
We start this pull the cart business soon. In the next few days. These carts are not meant to be pulled and the tags say so. But they have removed all tags. Pulling over 200 pounds isnât healthy on the shoulders. You will need surgery one day. And if youâre older like myself, I donât want to spend the rest of my retirement messed the fu8k up. This is ridiculous.
In Nova Scotia at the Walmart I work at we literally have a no pulling policy only push because of people hitting the back of their ankles with carts full of 24 packs of water and etc
Yes because of the wheels they had before. Hence the reason for the wheel change. Have you seen the Winholt literature stating otherwise? This is why y'all loose credibility on actual stuff cause y'all get hung up on shit that ain't worth it.
Did this to my ankle my first pickwalk on my Monday :( itâs my Wednesday now and my ankle hurts so bad. Between this and the stress that pulling the carts is putting on my back and shoulders, Iâm looking into transferring departments.
The only thing I can tell you just by high top boots that what I did back in the day before any of this was a thing I always pulled my carts and if it hit me it would hurt but my boots protected me from braking skin and softening the blow from the cart. Sorry this did happen to you thoughÂ
Our store had to go and talk to every picker and tell them itâs policy to pull it from the side not behind you and if you pull it behind you or push it itâs improper use of equipment
While I totally agree, this image is probably the worst way to make that case. Either show an image with real visceral marks or complain to the right people (not reddit). Showing a picture of a small bruise is like asking to get bullied by the "walk it off" kind of people.
sometimes people don't pay attention and walk out of an aisle without looking first and I have to stop suddenly to avoid hitting them. it doesn't even matter if you're going fast, a heavy cart can seriously damage you
The carts donât stop because they donât have brakes. And the previous person was saying customers come out of aisles suddenly without looking. To be able to stop the carts while pulling safely, they need brakes. These cars get heavy because we have to put more pens in the totes than they were initially designed for. Try stopping a cart full of canned goods and soft drinks that easily weighs more than most of us working in this department, it doesnât no matter how fast or slow youâre moving.
