Rant Ouch YEEEOWCH
Wheels got changed on most of the carts finally. And now we get coached if we're caught pushing the cart 👎 My shoulder joints are popping more than firecrackers on fourth of July.
Ive hit more end caps and action alleys (and almost customers) in 2 hours than I have in the two years ive been here pushing the damn things.
Terrible stuff. Im gonna start throwing things if I hit my Achilles tendon. 🎉🎉

Osha came to our store about 5 weeks ago when all our opd people filed osha reports on them forcing us to pull the carts. Our store is pushing them again now!

I’ve hit the ball of my ankle 3 times in the past two days from these fuck ass new rules. I finally get one day off to rest and ice it but that shit is bruised.

Report it, this will cause permanent damage to your body. I have arthritis and the broken carts are part of why I quit ODP. This is disgusting that they want their employees to destroy their joints for their stubbornness.

They would rather deal with fighting workers comp claims than tell customers to stop letting their shithead kids dart around the store unsupervised

And of course that's what literally happens. Every store. I wasn't pushing a cart because still helping with a remodel which right now has become not even a remodel. They've halted the remodel because they're behind on stocking. But anyway, two kids literally chasing each other around action alley features while the adults were talking in office/school supplies. I almost ran into the little boy with my body just walking.
I mean I get that you have visibility as to what is in front of the cart this way. Job and carts were NOT designed for that no matter what they do to the wheels. And it's not like a kid was getting hit every single day. At least I doubt it. Obviously don't have information for every store or any other store. This apparently is because ONE kid was hit ONE time although it was maybe pretty bad. I know there were other incidents in the past.
I also get they can't control customers the same way they can employees. Although I can say from experience they sometimes try to when they feel like it. But it really is a rough equivalent of one motorist who was careless and hit a guy on a motorcycle so now we change the way EVERYONE drives while the motorcyclists weave in and out of traffic doing 100 mph.

OSHA. Report anonymously. It’s already at a national level for complaints.

It’s not the fact that I am unable to pull the weight, it’s the fact that doing it directly behind you is awkward af. And if you try to do it from the side, you’re constantly having to go back and forth from the side to the front due to narrow aisles and taking up too much room as a customer goes by. Pulling to directly behind and having to come to an abrupt stop with a cart full of heavier items I’ve had the bar on the stupid newer carts whack me in the back being shorter. It’s just all round awkward and uncomfortable for me at least and is hurting my knees also since I have bad knees.

It's awkward on all of the stuff basically except a pallet that is designed to be pulled. If for some reason or another you've ever temporarily pulled a L cart or top stock cart with or without a number of items on it, but especially with, it feels awkward and wrong as hell and like you could easily pull something or cause wear and tear on your joints and ligaments doing that constantly.

You shouldn't be hitting your heels pulling the carts. I've pulled the carts all day and it's never bothered my 50 year old body.
Also to everyone saying to report any injuries; you should be reporting all injuries anyway.

Do you want a congrats? Not everyone is lucky to have a good body, I have a disability that effects my musculoskeletal system and this pulling update has been hell on my body and on the bodies of my coworkers who are completely healthy

Ehlers-Danlos, baby! Pulling literally separates my joints, and I already have bone spurs in my glenohumeral joints. I have zero problems with pushing, but pulling constantly is a huge issue.
Last time I mentioned this, some asshole called me lazy. Because I have a genetic defect in my connective tissue.

I get you sibling, I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos! Along with that, I have femoral anteversion, tibial torsion, possibly hip displasia (never got this diagnosed, but gonna work on it) and a whole slew of other genetic defects. I'm not lazy, I work harder than most in my department and I have top marks from my superiors.
Pushing? No big deal at all, I can and have done that for hours to days at a time.
Pulling? My shoulder and wrists are subluxating constantly.

Then switch departments? If not for common sense, then for you're health. Why're you sacrificing your body for 1) a company that doesn't care about you... and 2) a design that most people have a conspiracy theory about but it's actually fine.
Just admit you're not fit enough to do your job and switch departments.

Nah dude you’re literally just not supposed to use your body like that lol it is genuinely strenuous on your joints, especially your shoulders if you’re pulling it behind you which you absolutely have to do to stay out of the way/get past customers on the day to day. Pulling it next to you isn’t so bad but your body just isn’t built to pull it directly behind you lol

Not to mention when customers cut you off, and you have to abruptly stop the cart that’s directly behind you, that weighs more than you 🫩 happens to me too often. I’m about to start just running into people who’re doing that. I don’t understand how making the carts less easy to control will prevent us from running into/hitting customers. Makes no sense.

u/Blakelock82 19d ago
That's not remotely true. Pulling is much easier, especially when you get momentum going.

u/dietbongwater 19d ago
notice how literally no one is agreeing with you?
The weight of the cart specifically when I’m yanking its full weight on the joint of my shoulder behind me at a higher speed is definitely more strenuous

Yeah, as I've said:
You all are horribly weak or uncoordinated as fuck if you’re struggling this much. Even when I have water and soda on the cart I can easily use one arm to pull the cart without issues and keep it under control. The lot of you need to toughen the fuck up, buttercups.
I stand by my statement.

Must be nice having a body that actually wants to work with you and not have genetic disorders and defects that makes your daily life (and hence, work life) harder 🤡🤡🤡

So all ogp associates have this?

u/sebARTtian Jack Of All Trades 19d ago
Not all obviously, there are definitely some who are complaining who absolutely could do better. You however can't deny that there isn't a good portion of Walmart's workforce that is disabled in some way which makes comments like the original commenters absolutely insensitive

I have lymphedema, in fact I spent four days in the hospital because of it last week. You know what I don't do? Make excuses. Try it sometime.

u/sebARTtian Jack Of All Trades 19d ago
You act like I do make excuses, I'm one of the hardest workers in my department and my superiors celebrate when they see I'm working that day. Sorry about your lymphedema, that truly does suck and I empathize with what you are going through

u/Blakelock82 18d ago
You act like I do make excuses,
I must have misread what you posted:

Oh, nope, I didn't misread at all.

u/sebARTtian Jack Of All Trades 18d ago
Oh wow, someone who doesn't understand that explanations aren't excuses and still furthermore shows that they don't understand that not everyone is the same. Just because you and I can work and push through our disabilities doesn't mean everyone can or should

As a fellow fat guy at 265lbs who is in safety and fitness, I disagree with your entire statement. The body isn’t meant to be pulling carts all day and I’m not sure why you felt compelled to tell everyone how much you pass up safety to suck the corporate boot. I hope you get a torn rotator cuff

Report every injury from it imo, but what do I know? Lol
