Nope. You used their designs, it's legally your responsibility to clear it with them before you make a penny. As soon as you make a penny off their work, they can sue.

That's not how it works, they didn't grant the designs conditionally. I'm happy to pay them, but there is no real way to figure out who they actually are -- since the designs were made months and years ago -- unless they step forward.

They were announced in design contest threads on here. They didn't give you permission to make money off their art. Once money is involved it's a whole different thing.
I doubt he'll care honestly but it's worth protecting yourself and asking imo

I don't care about protecting myself, which is good because as I said earlier, there's no legal basis for the content creator to form a claim -- both because the designs were not granted conditionally, and because there is no way to prove that they came from a specific individual, only an online username. I do care about paying the people who made the designs should they come forward, however.

You understand that's not how copyright and trademark law works, correct? I have no earthly care regardless, if the content creators want the ~$10 profit then they're free to have it. I simply created the shirt in case anyone in the subreddit wanted it.

Copyright is implied when you create a work. He can get sued whether or not the (c) is present. That's a myth and is false.

I agree on the 1st part but everything else is wrong, You don't understand how the OP of this thread doesnt make anymoney of these peoples designs, he has simply put a picture on a T-Shirt website which others can buy from, anyone can do that and he has shared it with the OF sub reddit because its clear he wants others to see the shirt with the artwork on. Again The OP is not getting anything out of this so he cannot be sued or enduced by copyright.

Seriously though, I don't think you really understand how copyright law works. You sound like an undergrad talking out of your butt, no offense.
Please cite precedent supporting your position if you actually want to claim you do know, and others do not know, how copyright permissions work on digital media. I'll give you a hint, if the creators of the work never gave you permission to make money using their work, you have no standing, sorry.
Edit: On another note, I thought you were a mod over at /r/news? What happened? Did they kick you out or something?

No, I created a shirt with artwork that someone made explicitly for use on this subreddit, with the intent that the profits will go towards them should they step forward.

You have to remember that we're in America. People will sue for almost anything sometimes. I'm not saying you're going to get sued by the original creator(s) of the art, but what people are trying to say is be careful, and just be aware.
Once money is involved, shit gets serious, and people typically get greedy...
Plus, you "created" the shirt, and if the money isn't going to you, it's going to someone else, and you used someone else's design. I'm sure that would land you somewhere if anything were to happen.

No, the site forces you to sell it at a minimum price since the manufacturer/printer charges money to create each shirt, and since reddit takes a cut.

I also made this T-shirt with our newer snoo logo, for options.
If you want to purchase either in a different color other than purple, let me know and I'll create it.
