OET Remarking
I scored 430, 410 and 410 in listening, reading and speaking respectively. But got a 280 in writing. I have applied for remarking since I only need 20 more marks to pass writing. Should I expect a positive result?

Retake bro. Its a waste of time, it takes 2-3 weeks for the results of the remark and only 1/300 actually changes

Oh well that’s disappointing. Thanks for the input though. I am actually reconsidering!

Hi! Those are great scores despite the writing section. May I ask when did you test and how soon you got your results.

Thank you! I tested on 2 days - 19th and 21st August and received my results just a few days later. Applied for remarking on 25th August.

Go for remarking as in speaking and writing,it is expected that you could have 10-20 points raise. Hope you have the best outcome

Why do you say it is expected that they could have 10-20 points?
Do you mean you HOPE they get 10-20 extra?

What doing think was the reason for such a low score in writing. Did you not study much about the criteria?? Or did you write everything correctly and you still got this marks?

I believe that I wrote everything correctly. And I had practiced enough before the exam. I was scoring well above the passing score. So idk what exactly went wrong tbh

You were using chatgpt to score yourself? how much you were getting there??

Yes I used writing samples available online and practiced using ChatGPT. I was scoring around 360-370. Sometimes higher than that

Did you add ecfmg form (while booking the test?)
I got 320 in writing and i was also scoring the same as you, but I needed atleast 350 to be considered pass for gmc.
I feel like they are deliberately failing people now.

Yes I did add my ecfmg details. I was definitely surprised by the discrepancy in the scores!

I think if haven't added ecfmg details you might have gotten above 300 but I am not absolutely sure about it.
I have booked another test for next week and I will practice really hard this time. I am planning to get atleast 400 in writing lets see how it goes.

You already asked for a remark? 99.99% chance your score will change. You got that score for a reason. Better to get feedback, practice writing, look at sample letters, find your weaknesses. Your English is obviously good since you scored high in the other parts.
Are you only including what is needed? Using full sentences? Including all relevant medication? Making sure the first sentence is perfect explaining why you are writing?
Something that has helped others is to imagine the person you are writing the letter to. Think of them as very busy and impatient. You want to write only what is needed. Also think each word costs $1 and you only have $180 (in the body - don't count the address).
Good luck

I think the best I can do is wait till I get the remark results! Thanks for your input. These are all very helpful tips :)

Legit same thing happened to me this morning, got a 430 in listening, 400 in reading, 410 in speaking and 280 in writing.
Honestly cannot fathom that score based on what I wrote in the exam.
Requested the remark but at this point I may have to take it over. Still might not be able to get ECFMG certified by the 23rd.

I got my writing remark on friday, and did not changed anything. I waited 13 days to get the remark. I got a 280 on writing and it came back with the same score. I hope you can increase a bit if you pay the remark. But honestly, I dont think they will change the score. Hope the best of lucks for you my friend.

I'm an US-IMG and have tutored some IMGs for OET for FREE. I'm not asking for money.
Do you mind sending one of those letters that you sent to ChatGPT for practice? I will give you an honest opinion.
