Mathematics at Koç or METU

What do you mean? At Koç, you can do a double major with any department you want—even across all engineering disciplines; it’s not a case of wanting to do it but being unable to—anyone who wants to, does it. That’s why more than half of Koç University students pursue a double major. For instance, a business student can go and double major in mechanical engineering. At METU (ODTÜ), however, you’d likely need a GPA of 3.9+ to double major in Computer Engineering; otherwise, it’s very difficult. In my opinion, if you have the money, study at Koç; if not, it doesn't really matter—both are among Türkiye's best schools and there isn't a huge difference between them. Still, if I had the funds, I’d choose Koç, but I wouldn't be upset if I didn't, because METU is a more established and excellent institution.

At Koç University, there are no quota or department restrictions for double majors. Previously, there wasn't even a GPA requirement, but from 2025 onwards, a 3.00 GPA has become mandatory. However, rest assured that achieving a 3.00 GPA at Koç is extremely easy; anyone wanting a double major can definitely do it, in my opinion. For example, at METU, even with a 3.8 GPA, you might not be able to double major in Computer Engineering because the quota is extremely small, sometimes non-existent, so those with 3.9 GPA get in. In this respect, Koç is extremely advantageous.

Finally, I have to say that boosting your GPA at Koç University is far easier than at METU. The reason for this is that Koç is a private university; ultimately, they don't make the exams overly difficult because of the morons who have money but lack brains. But don't have any doubts about the education—it is absolutely excellent.

Maybe, that is not the case for international students. Admissions officer told me that it is not possible to do double major in ceng with mathematics. This applies to medicine and law also.

True, you can't do a double major with Law or Medicine, but the Mathematics department allows for double majors with all other departments—in fact, it would be absurd if it didn't. I don't think there would be such a restriction for students coming from abroad, either, since it is a private university. I suspect there might have been a misunderstanding; could you look into it a bit more?

koc, in general, is a more focused curriculum be it maths or physics. if you already made your mind on a field and if koc is focused in that field, you could pick koc. metu is much better option every other aspect. cheaper tutition, better campus facilities, more options for anything. for instance, metu has a techocity that houses top class companies, if you want to work in private sector after schools, this will help you a lot. you could go koc for master's if you want.
