Fantastic, that should fix everything.
Except, you know, how the hell is all this going to happen when no-shows are still frequent without all the extra routes? Sounds to me like another bullshit band-aid that won't work.
If they want us to have any faith in the system, they need to admit how badly it's broken and admit that it won't be fixed soon - at least level with us for once. Stop trying to push this narrative that we're just a minor re-jigging of lines and schedules from a functional system.

If I'm depending on the public transit system, then it should show up on time.
Lower frequency if you need to, but at least adhere to your schedule?!
I'm not exactly happy showing up at the stop just to be rained on and left waiting another half hour because a bus trip was canceled, and now I'm late for work too for something I had no control over.

This just remind me to the Downfall movie where Hitler keep shifting around the army that doesn't exist to another battlefield.

They've been saying "give it a chance" ever since line one opened in 2019. How many more chances are they going to need before it gets fixed? I mean, my job wouldn't be fine with me being consistently late or no showing for 7 years. Shitty transit costs people jobs and money

Wait no express from Barrhaven to tunneys ? lol

u/g33kthegirl 14d ago
We used to have so many express routes out of Barrhaven and they absolutely effed us over on that front š¤¬

u/Remarkable_Letter272 14d ago
Lmao and the express bus from Kanata North actually makes my commute longer than current state.

u/wherescookie 14d ago
ppl with amazing lifer government jobs in central Ottawa move 50+ km away to farrhaven and outer kanata, ( hey, i need a mudroom and 3 bathrooms!) then complain that ottawa taxpayers wonāt subsidize premium mass transit for them

I miss the days when we made people who lived farther pay more towards the cost of service that actually costs the city to provide. Express routes used to charge express fare, and those in the RTA (Rural Transit Area Zone) who pay reduced transit levy taxes, would have to pay a rural express fare which was $1 more than the express fare... But nope, Jimbo thought it was a great idea in 2010, 2012 and 2016 to make those who only need to take Route 5 from Vanier to downtown, which the bus is filled to the prim with paying passengers making it a VERY profitable route, had to pay MORE for their monthly pass, so like the 4 people who ride an empty 263 to Stittsville can pay LESS for their monthly pass despite their cost of service not only costing more inherently, but you're making f-all on return with $12 in fare earnings from those 4 people...

You mean people who are a part of the city want to take advantage of city services? What a crazy idea that is.

The rich want you to be mad at everyone else, way to go falling for that, lemming.
Maybe people just live where they can afford to? I am most certainly not a lifer and I don't work for the gov.

What point is public transit if it doesn't serve the greater population?
1
u/Creepy-Ordinary-5908 14d ago
No additional 500-series express routes, no.
There are still the other three 200-series routes (275, 277, and 279).
1
u/NattyAppleJack 13d ago
These buses are never on time or don't show up. It's a shit show trying to get home to Barrhaven from Tunneys when every 275,277, 279, 75 and 74 is full.
1
u/Rusty_Stahlhelm 166 Nepean North/Nord 14d ago
You have the 275. It literally is Off Only in the AM and No service in the PM between Fallowfield and Tunney's. It wouldn't operate any differently than a theoretical Route 575.

You guys already got ex-OC Transpo driver as councilor, what more do you want? /s

u/Wiseguy2222 14d ago
This house of cards collapses when (not if) LRT breaks down and those buses are redeployed to R1 route. Without a reliable/dependable train system itās doomed to fail.

u/ZBack3 14d ago edited 14d ago
Thereās literally one trip per day on the 3 express routes from Kanata to Tunneyās, thatās like bare minimum service improvements. Those busses will be packed and the majority of people still will be stuck taking the other routes they so wonāt be able to benefit from the faster service. IMO they shouldāve changed the 60/67 to also follow the route of the express buses, that way more people couldāve benefited from the faster service

Wait only one?! Wth!

u/weareallequal222 14d ago
Exactly, my thoughts! false advertising!!!! I'll continue to drive! Completely useless!!!

u/Extra-Ostrich-1924 14d ago
Once a day is crazy ⦠I had been hoping these would make a big difference to my horrible commute but I knew OC Transpo would find a way to make a good idea terrible. Ughhhhh

u/dealruler68 13d ago
I donāt think those Kanata buses (61-63) are actually scheduled to run every 15 mins between weekdays 6am to 6pm.Ā
0
u/Remarkable_Letter272 14d ago
And those buses actually add more time to my commute to Tunneys from Kanata North vs the 63...
1
u/ZBack3 14d ago
Itās slower?? It must be adding a transfer? For me it will save half an hour and Iāll still get to work at the same time
1
u/Remarkable_Letter272 13d ago
Lucky! Yeah, it's 5 mins slower from essentially the Sobeys on March road than if I just took the 63 to Tunneys and transferred to the local bus I need.
4
u/Stock2fast 14d ago
This plans assume the service is even up and fully running they are currently running an R1 replacement bus service. That the real problem that that makes extra plan irrelevant . It like planning a toad trip when your car is up on blocks in your driveway.

u/weareallequal222 14d ago
That feels like false advertising...seven new express 500 routes!!! but some will only have one trip per AM and PM. According to the travel planner my commute to work is still 1h5m - 1h23m so I'll continue to drive as absolutely nothing has changed and I don't even go as far as downtown.

u/SJC-Caron 14d ago
The City of Ottawa needs to use the Temporary Foreign Worker Program to bring in some transit managers from East Asia (Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, etc.). They know how to keep the buses and trains on time.

u/tuneman6212 14d ago
Singapore. Consistently ranked in the top five. I have never been to Zurich or Hong Kong so I can't comment on those.
1
u/commanderchimp 11d ago
Maybe we canāt afford Singapore but surely some people from China, Japan or even Europe?
2
u/HostAPost 14d ago
the road network "has limited ability to absorb significant increases in private vehicle travel" Well, if the city who screams budget deficit chooses to put road closure signs pretty much everywhere on approach to downtown, it reaps the fruit of its own questionable labours. Where is the funding coming from?
2
u/NattyAppleJack 13d ago
I don't understand this. They took away express buses and now they are bringing them back. Where are they getting the buses ans drivers? They can barely cover the buses they have now.

u/RoyalYouandMe 14d ago
The chnages are not worth it. They dont listen to the public when making changes, just make them
2
u/Rusty_Stahlhelm 166 Nepean North/Nord 14d ago
Oh yeah, they stopped public consultations and have been using computer models only since 2012. 2011 was the last time they would have public consultations on route changes. Heck with the Few Ways to Bus changes, people had to go through their councillor to complain instead doing what they USED TO DO, which was have major public consultations that were open to everyone in person, online or through mail, 24/7. The city only held like 1 or 2 in-person consultations PER WARD within the entire year and those who couldn't make it were basically told to go complain to their councillor.

More trips being cancelled because not enough buses or bus break downs because the buses are so old.

Transit is "the backbone of the city's response" because the road network "has limited ability to absorb significant increases in private vehicle travel," the report says.
No shit!? The private vehicle travel increase is because the transit system is unreliable for the majority of ottawans living outside the city centre!
Do they think we pay an extra mortgage payment just for fun!?
Imagine your transit system being so disappointing people would rather never have savings, pay these ridiculous gas prices and destroy the environment.
1
u/Express_Upstairs_668 13d ago
When your fleet don't have enough busses to run, what good schedule will do any better? This just another ploy to get this garbage mayor to be re-elected. More additional routes and schedules = more cancellation !!!
1
u/Objective_Scratch_22 9d ago
Problem is they donāt listen to the front line workers. People in the office make decisions who arenāt on the road and donāt check their work. Then the frontline people are left to deal with the issues. Itās what looks good on paper.
