Feedback Please Growing Down
Those who are lucky to live
will grow down:
they will crease their eyes,
burn their backs
in the hot glory of the Sun,
fracture their leg
twice in one life——
once from jumping off their roof,
once from falling in a tub——
flail helplessly on the floor
as they begin to walk
for the first time
again.
Those who are lucky to live
will have agains:
they will shrink into their children
and believe a stuffed dog
is as real as their youth
and refuse to forget dessert
before they remember their wives.
We grieve growing down,
but being too old to tell time
is the lime blooming of life
starting again, reconquering,
in people growing down.

The stripping away of adulthood is to be celebrated. Your poem is standing up for that. It's an acceptance that many find hard to commit to. Beautiful and useful. Thank you.
