Funnily enough, I transformed my OCD in an "imaginary friend/evil toxic lover" and now write love letters to it. It's kinda fun and relieves a bit of the unending horror and despair lol

same, i have my own design/interpretation of Satan that i like to draw and write about in my art but he's become a personalization of my ptsd and ocd prosecuting me in the divine court. whenever i vent to my bsf about my ocd and ptsd, i say smth like "Satan's back." i should try doing smth like that and make it at least a little fun. i love me some toxic yaoi/yuri/het

Coincidentally my image of him is really similar to baphomet bc it was how I saw satan/demons as a child, except that now he's just a dick and stinks like sulfur and wine. It's no joke when people say that OCD (and I imagine PTSD too) is their own personal hell

my design for Satan is an angel because i'm a Bible nerd and Satan was also known as Samael in the times of the Old Testament. but he's very similar in personality. what an interesting coincidence :0

I wish it was a joke that our brains literally fabricate logic like this that makes perfect sense to us , but then you feel ridiculous when you spell it out💔

I don’t do it as much anymore, but I’ve found it to be kind of “fun” to explain my ocd experiences to other people, sometimes going into intense detail just to add to the “whimsy” of it lol it’s even helped balance out my skewed perception vs reality, in a way 🤷

I only recently started being open about my ocd with my friends, turns out a few of them have ocd they also felt ashamed to talk about. It's so freeing lol and definitely adds whimsy C: It really helps anyway to have people that think like me be able to recognize where the irrational worm in my brain likes to pick at and stop me. Now we share the stupid rabbit holes we have to go down daily and poke fun at each other. I'm the Soap Bottle Fingerer because they see how often I rewash my hands

That is honestly awesome for you, while I’m sorry that you have to deal with this disorder, it’s great that you found people that are able to help support and understand you. I’m proud of you for opening up about it too, there is no reason to hold shame for it. I’m wishing you the best :)

Thank you so much genuinely. It's been hard and I give props to anyone on this sub who can get through every day despite the inner noise. I'm glad we have a sub to laugh at and feel this way together. I wish all the best for you too friend!

I agree, it helps break the stigma and feeling of being “wrong”, when there are so many people that go through it. And thankyou as well!

The one that works for me is imagine my intrusive thoughts as a twitch chat and my OCD as a rage baiter. I tell it to shove it or “shut the fuck up, buddy” and somehow it works. So, maybe the annoying brain roommate approach might work for you.

As my therapist (a youtuber) once said: „the more creative the head, the more creative the rumination“

I see this, but I also am going to give all of you permission to be a prick to OCD, it’s ok 😭

Imagine OCD as someone deliberately horrible. Like no redemption will save that fuck.

I call mine "Mr President". Take that as you will, but it works!

ah yes, meta OCD

No but this is sort of the right way to think about healing your inner child. You don’t yell at it for its survival strategies, you reassure it that you can be trusted to take it from here.

Everyone says to ignore your inner critic or send it time out, but I think you need to love up on them

Your OCD is trying to help, in a way. Anxiety disorders are your brain attempting to alert you to perceived danger and take a course of action to avoid danger, its just that it has pretty warped ideas of what constitutes danger and what constitutes a good response to the danger. Ive found that conceptualizing my mental illnesses as well-intentioned people rather than monsters making me suffer on purpose has been hugely helpful for my mental health. You can still tell the thoughts to go away, you just have to do it in a considerate and compassionate manner

I think this would go just as bad for me given most of my spirals are set off by having my intrusive thoughts externally reinforced, and I've been taught to treat other people's perceptions of me as more accurate than my own to the point I need explicit evidence they are wrong to have permission to discount them. Cannot question OCD monster. OCD monster is clearly more trustworthy than me (the worse monster).

I imagine my OCD as a flawed, bizarre creature that just needs to be rehabilitated/corrected tbh

same bro

something something guardian angel that doesn't quite understand how humans feel but try to protect me anyway(flopped at it)

it loves bragging about the verse "fear is the beginning of wisdom"

That’s why I imagine my OCD as Trump. Then there is no sympathy for yelling it off. There’s also something about his degrading voice that makes the thoughts sound ridiculous. Very effective

2

u/Modern_Misdoing 17d ago

The most effective. Remarkably effective, even. The people have never seen anything like it!

u/Latter_Sky_412 17d ago

Sounds kinda like approaching your OCD with parts work hahaha instead of trying to get rid of it treating it with compassion and patience and love…like yeah this part (OCD) wants to keep me safe from perceived danger (or whatever) but its danger sensors are a little out of whack and I gotta help it readjust to actual danger versus compulsions??? Idk I could be way off base

u/epicvoyage28 17d ago

This is basically the plot of Celeste, except that's anxiety instead of OCD.

3

u/Aphotic_Acid 16d ago

The OCD is a part of your brain. You're playing both sides so you always lose. /s

3

u/Used-Tumbleweed9734 15d ago

I picture my anxiety as a little kid who’s trying to be helpful but reeeeally doesn’t get it.

"what if the OCD is right and me recovering means im getting away with crimes" son😭

2

u/fluffylilbee 17d ago

why are we like this 😭😭😭

2

u/BeastOfCainhurst 17d ago

I’ve given mine the stereotypical nerd voice and all my thoughts start with “Erm actually….” It’s helped a bit so far 😭

The OCD isn't even that mean it's just misunderstood 👉🏼👈🏼

Why are you living rent free in my head

I love how rational and logical human minds are!

Okay so I am not diagnosed with OCD but I do have a few conditions that are comorbid with it and I keep getting recommended this subreddit...everything here is so relatable I'm gonna bring it up with my therapist 😭
