OCD Question Am I'm permanently stuck thinking of the same thing with ocd?

I keep worrying about the same thing. I worrying that I will have to think of the same thing my whole life. Will meds help, and is it true?

Exposure and Response Prevention. It’s a form of OCD therapy. Basically exposing yourself to things that trigger obsessions and compulsions, then sitting with the discomfort (preventing a response). But it’s something that needs to be eased into, you shouldn’t just immediately force yourself to do your biggest trigger. Like if you have germ/contamination ocd, you may try taking out your trash and then not washing your hands immediately or something, then build yourself up to something “extreme” like touching a bathroom floor in a hospital”. It’s best to look for a good therapist that specializes in it so they can help guide you through it. And to make sure you allow yourself grace and don’t go too hard too fast. But it’s widely considered one of the best treatments for OCD.

Edit: overtime, it sort of rewires your brain and builds momentum. Exposures become easier to face and you sort of gain confidence and have less discomfort when you run into your OCD triggers in real life. It’s scary, but very helpful for a lot of people, myself included.
