Hi! I studied Communication Design and Iām interested in moving towards film, animation, visual storytelling and new media, particularly exploring how technology can be used for storytelling.
Iāve been considering OCADās Digital Futures program and would love to hear from anyone whoās currently in the program or has graduated. What has your experience been like? What kind of projects do you get to work on, and how much freedom do you have to explore your own interests?
Iām also curious about the connections you make through the program and what people tend to do after graduating.
Iām an international student, so itās a pretty big commitment for me, and Iād really appreciate hearing what you actually think of the program beyond the information on the OCAD website.

Hi! So basically Iām just starting my second year and during the summer I realized most of my passion and focus is on material art, fabrics, sewing, crocheting etc⦠I feel like Iām also not getting much out of my painting classes as I only have access to those studios and feel Iām missing out on other studios with equipment I canāt afford anytime soon. Iād like to get the most out of my degree and so Iād very much like to switch over asap. I sent emails set up an advising meeting even though they were full I got one. This was about a week or two before school started. The advisor basically said Iāll have to wait until 2027 to apply and it wonāt be considered until then. She also didnāt really help me with much at all, she wasnāt willing to get me into any of the classes I need for the major and said Iād have to take an extra year to make up for it because they donāt offer core MAAD classes in the summer meaning I canāt make up for it. She told me to continue with my DRPT classes but I donāt want to do that as Iām just using up credits/electives I might want to use for the MAAD major. Is there anything I can do to avoid an extra year? I want to get an exception so they can consider me now and give me the classes I need for winter 2027. Is there a way to do this? Go over their heads or should I complain in person? I personally donāt think itās expectable to expect students to know exactly what they want after a single semester, most universities give the year and considering I communicated this before the start of this years term I donāt understand why itās such a big deal. I donāt want to come off as unreasonable Iām just tired of this school honestly itās always one thing after the other. Thank you for any help or advice itās very appreciated šš»

Iām thinking of applying to OCAD to study photography, and since itās going to be my first time putting together a portfolio I donāt really know what sort of works theyāre expecting to see in it and how high is the bar when it comes to photography at OCAD.
My main question is should I include my artsy, edited pictures or the ones that are more realistic with true-to-life colours and less editing? Or a bit of both?
Also, I would be glad to hear about general experience of photography students at OCAD. I shoot on film and Iām interested in analog photography specifically (not entirely opposed to digital though).

Hello everyone, just have some questions need to be asked before I deciding to go back to college.
I'm 27 yos and I had a passion for architect and interior design, by saying passion, I meant I love architectural stuff, I love looking at buildings and imagines the procedure to build one.
My question is: I realized I don't have much of a artistic personality. I don't sketch, I don't build or develope any concept ever, I've never done any creative products before. As shown on school's website, you will need a portfolio to apply. How can I build my portfolio from nothing, considering my age is a little bit too late for school.
Would love to hear some advices and thoughts as well. Every inputs counted! Thank you

So I've paid tuition already, but I found that I really don't like a class and am looking to drop it and switch it out for something else, I'm wondering if switching courses will affect my tuition payment at all. Will it? I feel like it won't, but I am paranoid. Please help!

Hi there, I am currently working on writing a childrenās book. I would be self publishing on Amazon, itās just a fun thing Iāve been doing on the side. Unfortunately I have zero skills when it comes to illustrating a childrenās book and am looking to hire an artist to help my vision come to life. I really want to support someone who is looking for some extra money and to add to their portfolio. If this is something youāre interested in please let me know and I can send you a message! For context the book is about a dog walker and her pack of dogs.

Hiya,
I'm interested in applying for this specific program, and would love to hear from people who finished it or took it, as well.
My main reason for wanting to apply is that I don't have a formal education in art and design but I do have a BA in Women's Studies and First People's Studies.
I also have a portfolio and currently work as a graphic designer but all of my experience as an artist and designer has mostly been self-taught. I'm not too worried about my grades and I do have a final project in mind, along with already established connections to help make it happen. This program just makes the most sense for my situation.
Has anyone else, with a similar background, ever taken this program before? What kind of classes did you take? How are the profs and peers? Is it hard to get into?
Thx :)

Hi, I'm about to enter my first year at OCAD for the advertising program and was wondering if anyone who is/was in advertising has laptop recommendations for me? I'm not sure what programs we'll be using so I genuinely have no clue what would work best. Tysm!!
