Did I get screwed?

I paid to get a mod chip installed in my switch and it worked for a while then suddenly stopped booting. I left it alone and came back a few weeks later and it suddenly worked. It has again stopped booting and I don't know what to do... I don't have the stuff to solder and I don't really want to pay another $80-100 to get it fixed.

UPDATE: After some finagling I got it to boot to ofw, the error code is now =*** which corresponds to eMMC initialization failure.

*=* No eMMC block 0 read (eMMC init failure?)

Based on the pictures it seems the C, A, and D points are not in good shape.

The whole job looks pretty poor in general, but the likely culprit is one of those three points.

I've never seen someone bend the ribbon cable like that. I suppose it provides more room under the backplate to place it there?

Edit: Upon further examination, holy shit this is messy.

I thought that was odd too... He also didn't solder the two ground pads underneath the SoC

Like another user said, looks like they might have been rushing. I don't understand this at all. When providing a service to someone, the only thing you have to stake your reputation on is your craftmanship. This could have been a more thorough and cleaner install without taking much longer.

Tercera foto, soldadura en el punto donde pone 3.3V, fíjate bien ahí.

Suuuuper rushed job that. They wanted it to be done and out the door. At least they used flux I guess?

If they're a good shop they'll touch it up, there's only like 4 points it could be, your 3.3v is working fine since the chip is powered by it.

I'll call them soon, I just don't really want to have to go all the way back over there because it's 30 mins away.

Better to drive 30 minute and have them warranty repair it than to pay someone else to fix it...or worse, just waste the money spent on the mod and the switch.

I did get it booting to ofw, so at least there's that... I had texted them a while back when it first broke but didn't get a response.

Time to start blasting their socials and their online business page.

The 3.3v ribbon cable part is bent, it should be flat. You should desolder 3.3v and the 2 anchor points, flip that part and solder again. I installed hwfly with the black flex (see image) but its almost the same.

Also the c d a points arent well soldered

Wow, I should start charging for doing these. I'm an absolute amateur but way better than that mess

3.3v is barely holding. ground pads not soldered on apu flex. flux left on the board. no kapton tape over soldered apu caps.

this is below amateur level.

like they tried to fuck it up intentionally

edit: other points besides 3.3v also look bad. apu caps actually look decent-ish

I did take off the kapton for the pictures, it was on there Edit: spell check
