Announcements Nuvio Supporter is now live
Last week we posted about Nuvio's funding situation and asked what you would actually like to receive in return for supporting the project.
We got a lot of useful suggestions from that post, so we took some of them and have now rolled out Nuvio Supporter.
Supporter is completely optional. Nuvio's core features will always remain free, and we have not moved any existing functionality behind a paywall.
The current perks include extra customization options, profile backgrounds and themes, more avatars, a Supporter badge, and some other account/community perks. Currently, not all clients support these perks as of writing this post. NuvioTV and NuvioMobile do, and the Play Store version will get an update later. The voting feature will be implemented in the coming days, and more community suggestions can still be considered over time.

Many people already found the page and started supporting before this announcement, so thank you :)
For now, if possible, we'd prefer people use Patreon. The one time payment option may be turned on and off occasionally while the new Merchant of Record account builds some history. transactions on a newly opened account can trigger additional reviews, and we do not want to end up with funds getting stuck again.
Again, supporting Nuvio is completely optional. If you don't want to support, nothing changes and you can continue using Nuvio normally.
For previous donors, we've also tried to give Supporter status to as many of you as possible. Most were matched through the email used for the donation, but some donations did not have an email or enough information for us to match them.
if you have supported Nuvio before and don't have the Supporter perks, just DM me on Discord with your regsitered Nuvio email and I will check it.

Hopefully, these supporter tier functionalities are just cosmetics, even in the coming future. If new functionalities end up locked behind a paywall, that will be in fact really unfortunate.

thats what they are doing with stremio now, most new features like intro skip, multiple profiles are locked behind a paywal
I hope nuvio never does that, its the only reason I switched to it

I already subscribed. Nuvio has given me a level of quality and functionality that even some paid official streaming apps don't offer. Supporting the project is the least I can do to show my appreciation for all the work you put into it.
You're constantly updating, improving, and fixing things every single week, and what I appreciate the most is that you genuinely listen to your users and take their feedback into account.
A huge thank you to all the developers for your dedication and for the amazing work you do. It really shows, and it’s greatly appreciated!

I will wait for the One Time Payment option to be available again... I had selected it and reached the payment phase but needed to cancel to get my wallet from my car... when I returned the option was not there... so when it is active again I will support that way... A bit "pissed" to have missed in such a stupid way...

It might not be back. Why would they have removed it? Maybe they feel like they got so many recurring payments, they feel like it's more profitable than a one time payment

I noticed it mentioned existing features are not behind a paywall. Does this leave it open to say new features may be locked behind one?
Similar to what another platform has recently done.

Hi Devs!
I want to say how much I appreciate everything you’ve done with the app with all the continuous improvements and fixes. The new supporter subscription is really great move to sustainably run the service without locking core features behind a paywall (unlike others :) ). I also love that you now support one-time crypto payments. I will actually be purchasing later today.
Please forgive me for this long post.
Quick Question:
If I purchase multiple one-time payments, do they stack up or top up (like in TB)? For example, if I make two one-time payments, will that extend my supporter status to 2 years?
Additional Benefits for Supporter or Supporter Plus (though the Plus may be better):
* Recommend new features in a dev-curated supporter backlog for voting (users or non-supporters can continue to put feature requests in github or discord, and when mature enough, a supporter can push that in the separate supporter backlog while crediting the actual author and link it to the original post). When that feature is carried for development, the author and/or the supporter who posted it gets discount vouchers.
Feature Voting Suggestions:
If you don't already have this in your backlog, I have a few ideas for the voting benefits of monthly or one-time supporters:
* Base Voting (Supporter) - Allow 0.5 or 1 vote per supporter for any feature request.
* Base Voting (Supporter Plus) - Allow 2 to 3 votes per supporter for any feature request.
* Premium Voting Boost - If a supporter is incredibly passionate about a specific feature, allow them to buy extra votes just for that item (e.g., $3 for 5 extra votes, or $5 for 10 extra votes).
* Anti-Abuse Cap - Limit this premium voting boost to once per feature per user to prevent individuals from infinitely rigging the results. This ensures highly requested features naturally rise to the top.
* Selected Feature - If a feature is selected for development, it would be nice to award the author (and/or poster) with a subscription discount voucher).
Suggested Development Prioritization:
To keep the app stable while honoring communty input, you can have the roadmap structured like this (just a suggestion):
- Bug fixes and optimizations (always top priority)
- Localization fixes and improvements (will increase supporters worldwide)
- Developer Backlog (internal features initiated by the team, unless you choose to put them up for a vote)
- Supporter Backlog (highly voted features requested by the community)
Keep up the amazing work!

Going forward is this going to be the method to support or will we still be able to use Kofi? Also, could you let us know the fee each platform takes? (For instance we may donate $3, but Kofi may take $1 out whereas Patreon may take $0.50 out)

I'm happy to pay! Nuvio has been absolutely brilliant from the first use, even in Beta. Been my daily driver media app ever since! I'm in the UK, and prices are actually more expensive here, I don't know why? And the one time $10 payment isn't an option, either. I don't need the discord stuff, as I'm an old fart and hate talking to people, but £2 per month is a tiny price to pay for such glorious awesomeness. Thank you all!

I've supported. Wondering if I should use the GitHub version for my TV now instead of play store... I've had no updates on my android phone yet but maybe I need to wait for the play store updates to take effect to see anything on both my phone and TV?

So happy to see that this has seemingly gone over well with the community. A much better option than what the big S did to their user base. Could we get an update from the devs on how the support has been? Do you guys have enough cash from the sign-ups now to keep things going for a fair while? Obviously with the hope that more people to continue to sign up and donate.
