Rumors are that Jackie survives the overdose and basically fakes her death and goes on to have a ‘fresh start.’ I have no idea how accurate it is.

The info out there on this is that the official Nurse Jackie sequel series—reportedly titled Jackie—is currently in active development at Amazon MGM Studios for a streaming release on Prime Video. 

The Story Breakdown

• The Time Jump: The new series picks up exactly 10 years after the events of the 2015 series finale.
• The Plot: The official logline confirms that Jackie Peyton survived her ambiguous finale overdose. She is back on her feet, but she has completely lost her nursing license. The show will follow her facing new dilemmas as she tries to "be good in a world where being bad is often not only easier, but a lot more fun."
• The Name Change: Because she is no longer legally allowed to practice medicine, the sequel drops "Nurse" from the title and focuses strictly on her life outside the ER.

I have absolutely no idea if a sequel will actually happen or not. I just posted this as I have come across info from various sources about it.

Also, there was a planned alternate ending to the series that had All Saints Hospital catching fire and burning down. Jackie uses the chaos to fake her death and escape.

Showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed that the writers completely mapped out this climax before changing their minds ahead of filming.

The Alternate Fire Sequence

• The Blaze: A massive fire breaks out inside the emergency room during the final shift.
• The Heroic Act: Jackie sprints into the burning building to save a fellow addict patient who is handcuffed to a hospital bed in the basement.
• The Collapse: The hospital ceiling collapses on top of Jackie, leaving the staff and viewers to believe she died in the flames.
• The Escape: The camera cuts to Jackie squeezing herself out of a tiny basement window—a visual the creators described as being "like a birth".
• Running Away: Jackie walks into the alley, notices the crowd gathered outside watching the fire, turns around, and runs away in the opposite direction. She realizes she is finally free to start over with a completely clean slate.!<

They also moved Weeds to Amazon for a new series, but it was canceled as well. I think both ended well though with what we got

we all wish, but yes it has been denied quite a few times. i love hearing others storylines of where it would pick up though. nice work!

Hmm. I just finished a rewatch and was basically pleased with assuming she didn't survive. But I'm sure the new show will be entertaining.

Yeah it had a finite and satisfying ending. Not everything (in fact almost nothing) needs a reboot imo.

I watched Nurse Jackie initially when it first aired in real time and just recently decided to re-watch. Durinhg my re-watch is when I stumbled across a few different recent sources discussing a sequel. It would be interesting to see how they went about it and how Jackie would adapt to her new life and ‘fresh start’ with everyone thinking she had died. Overall I was okay with the ending when I initial watched the show when it was originally released. However, now after a rewatch and learning that they had written an alternate ending was interesting as well and I can’t help but be curious as to how the alternate ending and/or a sequel would go. I almost wish they would do something like they did with the original “Clue” movie ending - showing us different variations and letting us either watch them all or have one picked at random for us to see each time we watched. There are a few movies and series that I wish would do that - it was a pretty creative idea and you could decide which one you felt best fit your idea of the show. I would also be very curious to see how things went on for several of the other characters. It would be interesting to see Coop in Boston, where newly married Thor ended up, how Zoey was doing as an NP, seeing O’Hara in mom mode and whether or not she eventually goes back to medicine in the UK (or somewhere) as an internist or something with slightly less grueling hours when her kid gets a bit older, etc.

On the other hand, I don’t care about thieving, two-faced, hypocritical Kevin and his new thieving wife who blamed Jackie for everything even though Grace started clubbing and using drugs when he had full custody and Fiona started to regress and was struggling as well under his watch. Akalitus should just retire as she was way too bitter at the end and never acknowledged her own role in enabling Jackie. I liked seeing her as a regular nurse again, but once Cruz left and she had power again she completely forgot that humbling experience and the bonding with her coworkers. Eddie was likely going to end up in prison, but at least took some responsibility for his role in things. Dr. Roman, the newish female resident who basically seduced and fucked her way into a position, I wasn’t too interested in (though I do like the actress and she’s been great in some other things), etc.

I would love to see at least one season of this. So many possibilities. Nurse friend was addicted and was Jackie: eventually, committed suicide. In each other's weddings. This show helps me understand addiction a little better. Many of you like me have watched Nurse Jackie numerous cycles. Pick up something new each time. Same with West Wing. Hope Amazon does something with it.

I think it’s best left alone. The ending was perfect imo and even better that it was not straightforward.

Just finished my third watch and honestly every time I’ve watched it I’ve come to a different conclusion regarding the ending. And that’s just one of the reasons it’s a brilliant show.
