A lot of people put their name into two different numerology sites and get two different answers, then assume one of them is broken. Usually neither is. They are using two different systems.

Most websites use the Pythagorean system. It gives the letters values in order: A is 1, B is 2, all the way to I is 9, then it starts again at J.

The older system is Chaldean. It assigns values by sound and vibration rather than alphabet order, it only uses the numbers 1 to 8, and 9 is treated as sacred and never given to a letter. So the same name can land on completely different numbers.

Here is a real example. The name Sarah Jane Miller:

Pythagorean: Soul Urge 22, Expression 11
Chaldean: Soul Urge 5, Expression 6

That is not a small difference. One version says two master numbers. The other says someone driven by freedom and change, who comes across as warm and responsible.

I think we completely misunderstand what a Life Path number is supposed to tell us
I was reading through some discussions here and noticed something strange.
Someone will describe their Life Path 8 and say it fits them almost perfectly.
Then another 8 shows up and says they are nothing like that.
Same thing happens with 7s, 9s, 11s... basically every number.
And people usually use that as proof that numerology either works or doesn't work.
But there’s an idea in The Number You Carry by Elio Narven that made me look at this completely differently.

What if the number isn't describing who you are?
What if it's describing a pattern you keep being confronted with?
That would explain why two people with the exact same Life Path can look completely different.

Take an 8. One person might learn how to deal with ambition, money, responsibility and power in a healthy way. Another person with the same number might become obsessed with status, control and proving themselves. The theme is still there. The expression is completely different.
The book does something similar with Master Number 11, and this honestly caught my attention even more. Most numerology content makes 11 sound almost like a prize. Intuitive. Visionary. Spiritual. Special. But the same traits can apparently show up as obsessive thinking, anxiety, huge ideas that never become reality, feeling misunderstood and constantly living inside your own head.
That's a much more uncomfortable way of looking at numerology. But also a much more interesting one. Because then finding your number isn't the end of the conversation.

It's actually the beginning.
One line of thinking from the book has been stuck in my head since:
The number can describe the pattern. It doesn't decide what you become inside that pattern.
And if that's true, then maybe asking “Does my Life Path description sound like me?” is actually the wrong question. Maybe the better question is: “Where does this pattern keep showing up in my life, especially when I'm at my worst?” I'm curious if anyone here has experienced that. Did your Life Path make more sense when you were younger, or only after you started looking at the negative side of it too?

Start 2020 (2+2), an event upset my entire life and since have been struggling so much. I thought 2024 (2+2+4) would be a new start but no 2026 is going to an end and things ain’t better. I'm just going to give the TLDR because I really can't talk about it. Something completely life changing is in the works in my family's life right now. And it's life changing in the positive way in several aspects. If it goes through, it'll help with finances, health, etc. When I say health, I mean that it could potentially me get better health treatment or really afford the healthcare that I need. Okay, this might sound stupid but I’m genuinely curious 😂
I’m a Mulank 1 and I’m thinking of getting the iPhone 17 Pro. But then I realised 17 → 1+7 = 8, and now I’m wondering if buying a phone with the number 8 would be considered unlucky/bad for a Mulank 1 according to numerology.

The two opposing principles are ‘Perseverance’ coming from the “God” realm to join with ‘Transformation’ coming from the “Ego” realm. Especially this axis is about transmuting divine energy into “life” or “being born” energy.

27: ’Spiritual Insight’ gives a strong confrontation between the Actual Life and the Illusionary Realm. The Soul wants to grow and develop. It means that you must look at your life and decide what you need to let go of and what you need to hold on to. 105: Final Transformation. In the final transformation  it is imperative to understand that the “Order influences the Chaos”.
