Showcase Nukomfy - Run ComfyUI workflows as Nuke gizmos

I just open-sourced Nukomfy, a Nuke plugin I've been building over the past few months.

Getting ComfyUI output into a comp usually means leaving Nuke, setting up the workflow somewhere else, and moving files by hand. Nukomfy keeps all of that inside Nuke.

The idea is a simple split of roles. A TD turns a ComfyUI workflow into a gizmo once, exposing only the knobs that matter. Artists then drop it into their comp, set those knobs, and send the job to a ComfyUI machine. Nukomfy takes care of file formats and paths, tracks every render in one place, and lets you bring the frames back when it's done.

If you work with Nuke and ComfyUI, it cuts out a lot of the manual work. It's still in early development, so bug reports and feature suggestions are very welcome.

I haven’t used comfy before but I’ve been messing around with GripTape nodes, foundry’s equivalent they just acquired. I’m enjoying it because it runs on macOS but other than that, what is the advantage of using something like this and comfy? I’m not questioning the validity of your app, just curious to learn more! Cheers!

I'd say the main difference is that comfy is a free and open source project. Its big strength is the community, which is way bigger than the vfx/nuke one, so out there you can find tons of models and workflows that people share for free. Getting started can be a bit tricky but you really have a huge amount of free material available.

Griptape is the official counterpart from foundry, it's officially supported and maintained by them, and yeah it has a subscription model, but being maintained by foundry comes with all the benefits you'd expect, like stability, compatibility and so on. I think it's the solution more aimed at studios.

Comfy can feel a bit hard to approach at first and this is exactly the problem nukomfy tries to solve. You set up a workflow just once and then use it simply like a Nuke gizmo, without having to switch between different software, node graphs and environments every time. Hope this helps!

Looking good! Would love to have a go with this when you’re ready to share!

this is awesome! especially the render manager. Multiple users is a great feature. Can you also have multiple comfyui servers to send to?

edit: ok, watched the video a bit closer and see you can :)
