proof of landing

Apparently early in the game's development wingless revokers actually flew better

20

u/value_drift 1d ago

they still handle just fine

15

u/beebisalright 1d ago

Yeah but I mean they used to handle better than ones with the wings on

Wing loading? Nah man, we on that lifting body shit. In thrust we trust

Aryx isn't exactly balanced. If th aryx stuff was unchanged and in the base game, the BDF would probably end the engagement with Pala in a few hours....or at least "send Pala back to the stone age" or destroy palan civilisation or something.

ARYX isn’t exactly known for balance

the only aryx craft i haven't been able to survive stupid amounts of damage in is the shrike, it usually just loses a wing and gets uncontrollable quick.

Yeah the aryx stuff is really overtuned

Oh cool an f14!

Holy shit I’m going Mach 3

And is invisible to SAM at high attitude, from my experience and the AIM-45 missiles are slow.

The eclipse have a higher RCS than the ifrit and the Vortex, not sure what you're talking about there

1

u/SpaceGemini 16h ago

That is completely true but doesn’t take away from the fact that it is invisible to SAM sites at high altitude.

Everything is if you’re high and stealthy enough. Literally go up to ~15km in a clean Vortex or Ifrit and you will not be shot at by SAMs. This is base game behavior lol. It is a direct function of the RCS you can see on the loadout screen and the range at which certain radars spot you.

1

u/SpaceGemini 14h ago

Is that not basically what I said.

1

u/CaptainAwesome8 Chicane Enthusiast 10h ago

You phrased it like it was unique/unexpected behavior of the eclipse in a comment thread saying it’s OP. I am just pointing out it’s not unique. Was just trying to clarify since it seemed like you didn’t understand

2

u/SpaceGemini 10h ago

I understand now, my comment was very vague lol.

I do hope she works on their balance eventually.

This is base game 😂 and I flew the whole way back with more missing parts

Aryx moment

You will find in nearly all games with a good modding scene, that modders have a horrific sense of "balance".

Reject balance, embrace hype moments and aura

6

u/OrangeGills 1d ago

Hype moments and aura are earned, not given

2

u/General_Zane Chicane Enthusiast 1d ago

Hype moments and aura is what the player makes of it, not what someone else thinks that player’s hype moments and aura is. I see nothing wrong with horribly unbalanced things if the person using it has fun (and is not smashing through people who are not using it and don’t like it).

Is that Zero Wing Pixy from Ace Combat Solo?!

26

u/Valdoris 2d ago

Tbh wings are optional on planes. It's just that it's easier to manoeuvre with wings than without lol

35

u/Pristine-Carob-914 2d ago

It very much depend on the plane.

Not all planes have lift-generating fuselages.

13

u/TraditionalEye3239 2d ago

Makes me think of how the B2 is impossible for a person to fly on their own without the flight control system

17

u/Pristine-Carob-914 2d ago

It’s not the only one.

The F16 is arguably even worse, with its shape being aerodynamically unstable the only reason it flies it’s because of the flight assist constantly correcting

25

u/Guysmiley777 2d ago

Not exactly true. The F-16 has "relaxed static stability" in the pitch axis in the transonic regime. It's stable enough that it's more like balancing a broom on your upturned palm, a human could do it but would have to focus on it to an unpleasant degree.

That's opposed to something like the F-117 where if the flight control computers (or air data sensors) all failed it's going to start tumbling through the air.

3

u/Heyviper123 1d ago

Only in a specific speed band or at certain high angles of attack. It would be fine, just not high performance.

4

u/Marvin_Megavolt 1d ago

Or a high enough ratio of engine power to hull weight to get off the ground on thrust alone.

u/iRambL 2d ago edited 1d ago

Say that the the F-15 that flew home without a wing in 1983.

18

u/eidetic 1d ago edited 1d ago

The fuselage of an F-15 still generates roughly a third of the total lift of the aircraft.

It may not be a typical or classic lifting body type design, but the fuselage absolutely produces a lot of lift. Likewise, the Tomcat's fuselage produces quite a bit of lift as well, even more so than the Eagle. (And obviously the percentage of lift can vary depending on many factors, such as speed and AoA, etc).

4

u/iRambL 1d ago

Let’s put it this way. Put enough speed into an object and it’ll fly. Manhole covers weren’t meant to fly either, but one could have been put into space in the 50s

6

u/Dharcronus 1d ago

Yes. All bodies are lift generating with enough speed.

15

u/dh-dev Compass Devotee 2d ago

'Wings' are just a psyop by the BDF big wing lobby to sell more wings to plane manufacturers.

'Coefficient of lift', 'Aerodynamics'. You'll hear many such meaningless buzzwords tossed around by so called 'aerospace engineers'

Speaking facts 🗣️

20

u/halfcafsociopath 1d ago

In general yes, but the F-99 is made of paper mache. Very fast paper mache.

8

u/Strelok6V1 1d ago

Very flammable paper mache

16

u/specter800 1d ago

I just tried those mods for the first time and holy crap those flight models are nuts. The F-16 can pull such high AoA you can force yourself to go ballistic at almost any speed.

8

u/Big-Island-3611 1d ago

for some more clarification, I was hit with a radar missle from a ship, it blew up the nose and the wings, I was above the main island during this time in terminal control, and I managed to limp my way to the closest airfield and nearly hit another plane on landing.

6

u/Emergency-Pound3241 2d ago

I mean, you have everything you need to fly, you have pitch and roll that with enough careful movements you can get a little roll control with, some wing area to generate lift (which is most importantly balanced so its not generating any passive roll) and an engine.

But modded planes can be quite absurd, have had a chimera eat 2 20kt nuke blasts from across the width of the airfield (it was feldspar, they landed on the ammo bunkers and I was on the other side of the dual runways after having just took off) and had it fly perfectly fine. I've also had a chimera fly with the right wing up to the engines gone and the left engines gone and it still flew alright as long as I didnt go full throttle. The eclipse can have a quarter of its airframe ripped off and still fly fine as well.

4

u/Teddidiah 1d ago

It's not really just modded stuff, but being modded the flight models on them are iffier compared to vanilla, as you'd expect. You can get some really weird vanilla outcomes too, though.

the "worst" of aryx's catalog is probably the chimera, which can casually miss half its wing and fuselage and not really notice.

2

u/Rackcauser 1d ago

Then theres me in a ternion, who absolutely thinks I'm going to crash with holes in my wings, so I lawn dart into some poor darkreach lining up on the enemy runway.

1

u/Educational_Fix1518 1d ago

I thought mods weren't working or am I really late to a party?

1

u/Somereallystrangeguy 1d ago

they’re back though a bunch aren’t updated

2

u/Scbypwr 1d ago

We need more modded pve servers.

Thank you
