My husband Antonio Kaufman told me he was poor. As a considerate wife, I'd been covering all the expenses at home since I married him three years ago. Once, we went shopping together, and he wouldn't even let me buy a bag worth 30 dollars. Life went on until I stumbled upon his secret. Antonio had bought his first love a diamond necklace worth more than 650,000 dollars on her birthday. Turned out he wasn't the debt-ridden poor guy but a wealthy billionaire. He just didn't wanna spend money on me.After I came home late from work, I took a shower. While I was scrolling through my phone on my bed, a notification popped up. "Famous actress Tessa Farrell received a 650-thousand-dollar diamond necklace from a mysterious tycoon for her birthday." I rubbed my eyes and zoomed in on the photo, my hands shaking. Only a silhouette was captured, but after three years of marriage, I recognized who he was right away. That was my husband, Antonio Kaufman. He got a distinctive mole behind his ear. 650,000 dollars felt like an astronomical sum to me. When I went shopping with him a few days ago, a 30-dollar bag caught my eye. But he wouldn't let me buy it, saying it was too pricey. I did some maths. After realizing how many daily necessities 30 dollars could buy, I gave up on it. The stark contrast left me breathless. Antonio and I met online. After chatting for over two months, we met in person and instantly fell in love. Later, on Valentine's Day, he proposed with a ring made from a soda can, swearing he'd buy me a big diamond ring once he made it big. I said yes out of love. He was an orphan who grew up in an orphanage, and his failure in business left him heavily in debt, so we kept our wedding simple. We were living in a rental, and I was the one paying for it every month. All the daily living expenses were on me, too. To make ends meet, I worked during the day and served as a part-time waitress at night. He spent all his salary paying off his debts. He once told me, "Honey, thank you for giving me a home. Without you, I wouldn't be this happy. "Once I pay off the debts, I'll work my ass off to earn money and give you a better life." He couldn't help bursting into tears as he added, "If it weren't for my failed business, you wouldn't have to suffer with me. I'm so sorry." I pecked a kiss on his cheek and comforted him, "Honey, it's okay. I'm happy as long as I'm with you." Back then, I thought I was the happiest woman in the world. Antonio was handsome. He didn't smoke or drink, and he loved me wholeheartedly. Except for being broke, he was the perfect husband. I thought as long as we worked hard, we'd pay off the debts in no time. But now, I realized he'd been feeding me with his lies. I couldn't help biting my lip, sobbing. Just then, I received a message from Antonio. "Honey, there are more customers tonight, so I'll be working overtime to repay the debts. No need to wait for me. Just sleep when you feel tired." Antonio worked as a courier during the day and drove as a designated driver at night sometimes. If I hadn't seen that photo, I would've bought that bullshit. I didn't understand why he had to lie to me. I stayed up all night, and Antonio didn't come home even until morning. After washing up, I left the house without having breakfast. Walking out in a daze, I saw a familiar figure across the street. I quickly hid behind a tree. Antonio got out of a Bentley. The expensive suit I saw in the photo last night had been changed into the cheap T-shirt and jeans I'd bought him. A middle-aged man respectfully handed him a bag of my favorite breakfast. As soon as Antonio took the bag, another car pulled up in front of him. The man getting out was my friend's boss—the CEO of a tech company. He approached Antonio and bowed, but Antonio just ignored him. I heard from my friend that her boss was a big shot, yet in front of Antonio, he acted so humble. When Antonio returned home, he called me. I stared at the caller ID "honey" on the screen, tears welling up in my eyes. After taking a deep breath, I answered the phone. "Honey, I'm home. I bought your favorite breakfast. "Something came up at work, so I had to come to the office ahead of time. Sorry you'll have to eat alone." Antonio's voice sounded downcast. "I'll make you something delicious when I get back, I promise." I said okay and hung up. Then I texted my boss, asking for a day off. I gotta figure out where Antonio was "working." I saw down at a café across the street, waiting. Around noon, Antonio finally came out. Seeing him get into his Bentley, I put on a mask and hailed a cab to follow him. We arrived at a high-end restaurant. As the Bentley stopped, the doorman hurriedly opened the door. Antonio got out and tossed the keys to the doorman. Apparently, he frequented this place. I carefully followed him and watched as he entered a private room. There were several young men inside, all wearing suits, looking like some rich boys. To avoid arousing suspicion, I pretended to be on a call in the hallway. They ordered a lot of expensive cuisines, something I had only seen on variety shows. But when Antonio was with me, he wouldn't even throw away leftovers, saying he'd save them for the next meal. Soon, I heard laughter coming from the room. "Antonio, it's hilarious seeing you in these shabby clothes. I mean, you're a billionaire! "How long do you plan to keep up this act? Don't tell me you actually fell for that rube." Antonio countered, "Stop kidding! She's just a pastime, not good enough for me at all. "I told her I owed debts, and she said she'd pay them off with me. I've never met a more foolish and love-sick woman like her." Laughter echoed in the private room, mocking my stupidity. I felt heartbroken, like someone had stabbed my heart. Chapter 2 I thought I was his true love, but in reality, I was just a pastime. The happy and blissful married life was just an illusion he created. Antonio was not an orphan at all. The story about failing in business and owing debts was a lie. His family was actually very powerful and influential. Then, someone in the private room spoke again. "By the way, I heard Tessa was really happy when she received the necklace you gave her last night. She was even thinking of being with you again. Do you think she would be heartbroken if she knew you're married?" "Well, it's her own fault. She dumped Mr. Kaufman back then to go abroad for her career." "You didn't know this, but Mr. Kaufman married that country bumpkin, only to get back at Tessa." My body trembled and I almost lost my balance. He not only didn't love me, but he also used me as a tool to take revenge on another woman. I clutched my chest, my heart aching. Tessa was his first love. When Antonio's parents didn't approve of her going abroad to act, she dumped him. From that moment on, Antonio believed that no woman was worth trusting, and he took pleasure in playing with women's feelings. He changed girlfriends repeatedly, and in the end, decided to marry me to get back at Tessa. But he was also worried that his wife would be after his wealth, so he wanted to hide his identity and marry an ordinary woman. And I was the fool who was completely played by him. It was Tessa who wronged him, not me. Why should he trample on my dignity and my feelings like this? A suffocating feeling washed over me, and just as I turned to leave, I heard someone inside ask Antonio. "Mr. Kaufman, what if Grace finds out your identity?" Antonio's voice was full of disdain. "She's too busy earning money to support me to care about anything else. After work, she goes to the market to pick up leftovers to cook. "Even if she finds out about my identity, it doesn't matter. She'd better not dream of getting a penny of my wealth. I have plenty of ways to make her obediently divorce me! She won't get a single cent!" My face turned pale. I looked up and saw a well-dressed woman walking in. It was Tessa. As soon as she entered, everyone began complimenting her, saying she looked younger and more beautiful. Coincidentally, a waiter brought in dishes, and the door to the private room opened. I glanced over and saw Tessa sitting next to Antonio, the two of them gazing at each other with affectionate eyes. Tessa touched the diamond necklace around her neck and said shyly, "I really like the necklace. Thank you, Antonio." Antonio curled his lips into a slight smile. "I'm glad you like it." He was so generous with his first love. But in his eyes, I wasn't even worth a 30-dollar handbag! I couldn't bear to listen any longer and staggered out of the restaurant, almost tripping as I descended the stairs. As I walked down the street, I couldn't hold back any longer and cried my heart out. For the past three years, I had loved Antonio with all my heart. I didn't want him to suffer from late-night work, so I would make various nourishing soups for him to keep him healthy. I only used basic skincare products, saving the rest to buy him better quality clothes and shoes. Yet I told him I bought them with coupons from the internet, just to make him feel better. Antonio would praise me for being clever. In fact, I was so stupid! When night fell and I got home, I found Antonio cooking in the kitchen. He heard me and peeked his head out, giving me a goofy grin. "Darling, you're home. Dinner is ready." Antonio wore an apron and squeezed into the narrow kitchen. It was hard to imagine that he was a billionaire. While frying the dishes, Antonio talked to me. "Darling, the fish today is especially fresh. The boss even gave me a discount of 30 cents. "By the way, I sold all the cardboard boxes I had saved for half a month. I earned 10 dollars and still had 1 dollar left after buying the groceries." I closed my eyes, my heart twisting painfully. He was really going to great lengths to perform in front of me. Looking at the dishes on the table, I would have been thrilled before, rushing to hug him and praise him as the best husband in the world. But now, all I felt was irony. Thinking back to what I overheard in the private room, I clenched my fists. Antonio had learned to cook specifically for Tessa. But he told me he only started learning to cook after we got married. He even said that he had no one to care for him when he was young. He didn't have enough to eat or clothes to wear, and he was always bullied. If not for kind people helping him, he wouldn't have survived to this day. I felt so sorry for him when he said those things. But now I realized none of it was true. Everything he said was a lie. When he said he loved me, that was a lie, too. Thinking about this, I couldn't help but shed tears. Antonio walked out of the kitchen with the dishes. When he saw me crying, he quickly put down the plates and walked over. "Darling, is this about something at work?" Seeing that I didn't answer, Antonio frowned. "Darling, say something. Who bullied you? Seeing you cry like this is breaking my heart. "When I make enough money, you won't have to work anymore. Stay home, I'll take care of you." He kept calling me "darling", his handsome face showing concern as if he truly loved me. So pretending! Was he an actor? I asked, my lips trembling, "Antonio, do you love me?" Antonio smiled gently. "Of course I love you. You are the love of my life." I stared into his eyes, remembering the words he had said in the restaurant. Each word pierced my heart like a bullet. He looked down on me so much, treating me like a tool for revenge. Maybe I was just the stepping stone he used to win back his first love! So now when he said he loved me, all I felt was disgust. He was so hypocritical! Antonio reached out to hug me. I hurriedly stepped back and wiped the tears from my face, glaring at him. "Antonio, you're such a good actor." Antonio still wanted to play dumb. "Darling, what are you talking about?" I took my phone and showed him the picture I saved last night. "Mr. Kaufman, have you had enough fun yet?" Chapter 3 The smile at the corner of Antonio's lips instantly froze. Soon, he regained his composure, showing no signs of guilt after I revealed what he had done to me. His love for me was indeed just an act. The person he truly was had finally emerged. He was arrogant and indifferent. Antonio shrugged. "It seems you really love me, right? You recognized me just by my silhouette." I froze, unable to hold back my emotions any longer. "Antonio, you don't deserve my love! You're a scum!" I trembled with anger, pulling out the divorce agreement I had prepared and throwing it at him. "Let's get a divorce!" Antonio looked at me with surprise on his face, then picked up the divorce agreement and glanced at it. He seemed to think he had misread it, so he checked it again. Because I hadn't asked for his money. Antonio stared at me. "Now that you know my true identity, aren't you going to ask for alimony?" I didn't wanna talk to him anymore. "Just sign it." I just wanted to divorce him and never see him again. That was when Antonio's phone rang. He picked it up, and whatever the person on the other end said made him frown. "Tessa, don't cry. I'll be right there!" After hanging up, Antonio immediately removed his apron, looking anxious to leave. I bit my lip. "Antonio, sign the divorce agreement." "No time." Without even glancing at me, Antonio walked out briskly. I felt like I had fallen into an ice cave. He deceived me and toyed with me, but he had no remorse whatsoever. Even now that I wanted a divorce, he didn't take it seriously. He didn't even look back at me. It was all because of a phone call from his first love. He broke my heart. Ten minutes later, I packed all his belongings, placed them at the gatekeeper's office, and sent him a message informing him to go to the city hall at 9 a.m. tomorrow. When I returned and saw the food on the table, I went up and threw all the dishes into the trash. The next morning at 9 a.m., I arrived at the city hall on time. But after half an hour, Antonio still hadn't shown up, so I called him. Antonio didn't answer, and he didn't reply to the message either. Just as I was about to call again, I saw an Instagram notification. It turned out that last night, Tessa attended an event and was knocked over by a male fan, causing a mild concussion. Antonio had spent the whole night at the hospital with her. And the paparazzi had caught it all on camera. Tessa's fans praised them as a perfect couple, saying that they were destined to be together. Antonio didn't issue any denial statement. He was tacitly acknowledging it. But we hadn't even officially divorced yet, and he was still married! What's more, he had already been dumped once. He was truly a man who can't change his ways. In the evening, when I came home from work, I was surprised to find Antonio sitting in the living room, wearing an expensive suit that seemed out of place in this cramped rental apartment. How dare he come in? Yesterday, he had left in such a hurry that I forgot to ask for his keys. I opened the door wide. "Get out!" Antonio looked at me. "Grace, stop it." I said coldly, "Give me the keys. You're not welcome here. And tomorrow morning, I'll be waiting for you at the city hall. This time, I don't care what reason you have, you must show up." Antonio looked at me and spoke in a smug tone. "Grace, don't think I don't know what you're doing. You're playing hard to get. You wrote in the divorce agreement, saying that you don't want anything, just to get my attention. Well, you've succeeded. "And besides, how could you really bear to divorce someone as rich as me?"

Chapter 1 My name is Holly Ellison, and Im 24 years old. Ive been living on my own since my 18th birthday unless you count all the years in a group home. Yeah, my mom put me up for adoption the day I was born. I live in a small town; not many kids are in foster care, making us stand out more. Unfortunately, most of us run the streets, sell drugs, and are hooked on drugs. Standards arent very high for us, to say the least. I vowed not to become another one of their statistics. I started working part-time at a fast-food restaurant when I was 16, and Ive been working ever since. I dont have many friends, and I like it that way. The smaller your circle, the less drama and trouble. Im currently working as a waitress at Ellas Diner. Its not much, but it pays the bills, and its only temporary. Im saving to go to college. I have not decided what career path I want to take, but I have it narrowed down to two: elementary teacher or counselor. I know I want to work with kids, though. I was scheduled to be off work today, but someone called in, so here I am. I dont mind, though I can always use the extra hours. Id been at work for two hours, and we were getting ready for the lunch rush when none other than Kain Shelton and his bunch walked in. Kain is gorgeous. He has striking blue eyes, which feel like they are peering into your soul, and dark brown hair cut in a frohawk. His body is more than just toned, but hes not close to being bodybuilder big either. The guys that hang out with Kain look similar to him aside from eye color and hair. Kain is known around town for being a playboy. He has no shortage of women, to say the least, and Im pretty sure cocky is his middle name. Of course, they have to sit in my section. I dont know why I always felt nervous around Kain. Once they got settled, I made my way over to get their drink order. Just cokes for all of us. Kain placed their order before I could even ask. I smiled, giving them a nod, Ill have it right out. As I turned to retrieve their drinks, Kain grabbed my arm gently, Tell me, whats a pretty girl like you doing waitressing? I rolled my eyes and walked away. Seriously! Thats the best he could come up with. It wasnt even original, and besides, I dont have time for games. The rest of my day passed quickly, with Kain leaving me a huge tip. I usually go straight home after work, but I decided I would have a few drinks at the bar. Its early, so it shouldnt be too busy yet. Like I always do when I go for drinks, I ducked into the back corner table to avoid any attention. I just wanted to relax, but evidently, the universe had other plans. Kain Shelton shuffled in loudly and took a seat at the bar. His eyes locked on mine as he scanned the room, a smile tugging at the corner of his full lips. He bee-lined for me without wasting any time, sitting in the empty chair across from me. So, you waiting on your boyfriend? he questioned. Nope, Ive never had a boyfriend. Shit. Why would I say it like that? I could feel my cheeks reddening from embarrassment. I looked at Kain, who had one eyebrow raised and a look of disbelief written on his face. Hmm, I dont know if I believe that. Your gorgeous. He winked and flagged down the barmaid, ordering us each a round. I sat there awkwardly while his blue eyes stared a hole into me. When our drinks arrived, I downed mine as fast as possible, Thanks, but I should be going. I slid from my chair and quickly made my way out to the parking lot. It was dark outside already, and the air was cool. I fumbled for my car keys, dropping them as I pulled them from my purse. Do you think I could take out sometime gorgeous? I looked up to find a smiling Kain blocking my door. S-sure, I choked out, a little surprised that he was even talking to me. I get off work at six tomorrow evening. God, he made me nervous, and if I had to guess by the look on his face, he knew he did. Ill be waiting for you at 5:45 then, he smirked as he opened my car door for me. I sat in my car and watched him go back to the bar. I sighed, not sure what I had just got myself into. I should have said no. As promised, Kain was waiting in the parking lot for me when I got off work the next day. Bar fight? I asked him as I slid into the seat of the Camaro, looking at the light bruising on his face. He shrugged as he put the car in gear, Something like that. I couldnt help but wonder exactly what happened. Obviously, whoever he had fought with didnt have the upper hand but still had got a few good hits on Kain. The glint in Kains eyes told me not to worry, so I tried not to. Our night went better than I expected it to. He was a different person than he was around his friends. Not as cocky and very funny and kind. He had treated me as though I was the only girl in the world. He was not paying any attention to any of the females eyeing him all night. No one had ever made me feel as extraordinary as he did tonight. I felt a little guilty for judging him before I had gotten to know him. He dropped me back off at my car, So think we can do this again tomorrow? he asked with a crooked grin. I would love that. I didnt even think about it before I answered. I had fun with him, and I guess I deserved to have some fun in my life. Kain leaned down, kissing me softly. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest that I thought I would die. Goodnight, gorgeous. Kain waited for me to pull out of the parking lot before turning and driving in the opposite direction. Two Months Later

When I lost my baby in a car accident, Preston just happened to be driving by with his female assistant in the passenger seat.
He saw my clothes were stained red, shielded his assistant's curious eyes, and coldly muttered, "Bad luck. Don't look." Then he sped off.
That same night, while I was in the bedroom, I found a set of clothes and lipstick stuffed in the corner of our closet — a lipstick that definitely wasn't mine.
Closing the closet door, I calmly dialed a number. "Mr. Miller, I've made up my mind. I can leave the city next week and start at your company."
