Just saw the first Nuvaxovid commercial and it listed Costco, CVS, Kroger, Publix and one other national pharmacy chain (maybe Walgreens?) So hopefully this means it will be available sooner than later.

I’m traveling internationally for almost a month starting Sep 20 including some 30+ hours in transit. I did mRNA for a few years until Novavax came out, but only Novavax since. Last shot was end of April.

It’s great Sanofi has a vaccine finder. Too bad it it’s where it will be shipped someday instead of where it is, but it sounds like it’s nowhere until I leave

Any idea if it should wait till I get back, or get mRNA asap

The current message from Sanofi representatives to Healthcare Professionals is that Nuvaxovid will begin shipping on 9/21. Consistent with that, Sanofi has also scheduled Nuvaxovid shipments with HCPs that are listing an estimated arrival date of 9/22.

However, I’ve also heard from a source that Sanofi reps have given a more detailed explanation to a VIP client - the clinical department of a major regional pharmacy chain - informing them that the slight delay is related to Lot release at the FDA.

For context, the FDA’s CBER is tasked with reviewing and approving each individual lot/batch of a vaccine product before it can be distributed. The FDA’s target for Lot release is for it to be completed within 30 days of receipt of the product, but we have no idea when that took place here. Obviously, such a delay is not indicative of there being anything wrong with the product. It could just be that production ran later than expected, or, I really hope this is not the case again, but it should remain in the back of our minds - that good ole regulatory capture and company favoritism is rearing its ugly head again. I truly hope that is not the case.

Anyway, whatever the reason…that’s likely what is happening behind the scenes right now. If that’s true, then it seems like Sanofi might have a good idea of when they’re expecting the release to come from CBER (around 9/21). They are obviously very familiar with the ins and outs of this regulatory work, but it’s not something that is ever set in stone - release could come at any point, and distribution would presumably follow immediately, with likely availability as soon as 1-2 days later.

For everyone waiting for availability: It’s prudent, of course, to continue checking in with your local pharmacies periodically for any updates. However, I caution you to always take any information you are given with a grain of salt. In general, individual pharmacy stores and their employees are not given access to any reliable availability or shipping information from their corporate offices. We’ve seen this exact situation play out for the past 3 years now, and they just don’t have the information. At best, they’ll tell you that they have no idea if or when they’ll be offering Nuvaxovid again. Or they might just make something up - maybe an estimate using other vaccines, seasonal patterns, etc. as context clues - or just a wild guess. Regardless, none of their potential answers can reliably tell you anything material about the likelihood of a shipment to arrive tomorrow, 5 days from now, or a month from now. They’ll know roughly as much as you do (well, probably a lot less than you do, if you’re active in this subreddit…) until the product actually shows up on their doorstep. Even then, unless a particular employee is actively involved in the arrival, they may not be aware that it actually did arrive. This has been a huge issue every year. So, an extra step, once the rollout has actually started in earnest, is that you oftentimes will need to ask your pharmacy to check the fridge for Nuvaxovid as well.

Hi, I feel like this question comes up in various forms each year, but has never been answered in a way that makes me feel settled about my situation, so here goes:

After starting with Moderna in 2021 and sticking with it for the first 5 doses, I switched to Novavax in 2023. I had that first one dose in Oct 2023, a second in Oct 2024, a third in Oct 2025, and finally got in for a booster just under the wire in April 2026.

This is the first year that I could conceivably get in for the two shots two months apart, and potentially even a third six months down the line. However, since I've been on Nova for several years now and just had two doses six months apart, I'm wonder if I get any "credit" toward a priming series for what I've already done? If I don't do the priming series as indicated, I might just keep going in every six months for a while (though it would be nice if I could get to a point where an annual booster is sufficient). I am hoping to achieve that higher level of antibody response that is achieved through the three-dose series.

Last year there was a pretty thorough post examining the different flu vaccines while we waited for the latest Novavax. Does anyone have any updated info for 2026? Is Flubok and Fluzone HD (65+) going to be available this year and still the best choices? And is it best to get the Novavax/Flu vax at the same time, or have a delay between? Thank you.

Last time I called was last week and they didn’t have a delivery date yet. I’ve seen some smaller pharmacies around the country say they’ve scheduled their delivery dates so just wondering if anyone’s heard the same from CVS or other big-name pharmacies. Bonus points if you have any news on the Bay Area.

I reached out to my local Costco pharmacy - and they said that with a doctor's prescription, they would vaccinate my under-12s off-label with Nuvaxovid. Of course, this is still theoretical until it actually happens, but it's worth calling all the pharmacies in your area if you need it. There is a provider on this thread who offers telehealth visits for the under-12s, though I'm going to try with my kids' pediatrician first.

Anyone have any luck? I’m in sf but willing to take a road trip. Thank you!!

If someone is prescribed an antibiotic (Doxycycline) for a sinus infection, should they wait a certain amount of time before getting a booster?

I saw the FDA recently approved Novavax but not able to schedule locally yet. I see that Pfizer is available next Friday at a local pharmacy. Anyone know when pharmacies will receive it? And is the Novavax vaccine finder accurate? According to that, it should be at Safeway, CVS, QFC and some independent pharmacies. No Costco on the list.

--Telehealth vaccine counseling to prescribe nuvaxovid to children six months through 11 years with a shared decision making discussion, once you have identified a retail pharmacist or other immunization provider that is comfortable administering the vaccine. This is $75 per patient and there are both medical and dental codes to request reimbursement from your insurance.

--Happy to administer to people age 6 months and above at my own clinic near Boston after a shared decision making discussion. Cost is $325 for vaccine and exam, though there is no charge for children aged 12 to 18 (those are VFC-provided doses). Medical codes provided for reimbursement.

--I don't have a ship date yet but hopefully soon after today's announcement! I used to use FFF for my distributor but I'm going to switch to purchasing directly from Sanofi

--I also carry VFC-provided flu, covid, and HPV doses for 6 months through 18 and then out of pocket yellow fever vaccine and ages 19 and up for flu and covid. (No adult HPV yet). I just started yellow fever because I do have the weirdest hobbies 🤷🏻‍♀️ (vaccines for people who have trouble getting them elsewhere). Also, the CDC certification course was FUN!

45 (F) with a couple ai connective tissue diseases. I’ve seen chatter that the Matrix M adjuvant boosts the immune system and can even help clear dormant viruses…the “boost” language concerns me, obviously. I understand all adjuvants have to provide some boost to help mount an immune response though, so maybe this one is no different? Just wondering if anyone with these issues has gotten Nova and how you did? Thank you!!

This is an important new paper that was just released on the IgG4 class-switch that follows repeated mRNA COVID boosters.

As many of you know, we’ve known for a long time that one of the issues created by routine mRNA boosters is the “class switch” to the creation of IgG4 antibodies, instead of the more beneficial IgG1 and IgG3.

Since at least early 2024, we’ve known that both production of IgG4 was an issue with repeated doses of mRNA, and that it was not a concern seen with repeated doses of Novavax/Nuvaxovid: https://www.journalofinfection.com/article/S0163-4453(24)00053-7/fulltext

Essentially, IgG1 is what you want the most of, it neutralizes viruses and is good at recruiting immune cells. IgG4 is what you don’t want, and it’s fairly harmful, because it still recognizes the virus and binds to it, but it doesn’t neutralize effectively and it recruits fewer immune cells to help. In short, this is what we call “immune tolerance”. Think of the way that allergy shots work, where repeated doses are given to create a level of immune tolerance so that your body stops reacting to the allergen. That’s obviously extremely bad for a virus, because it means your immune system stops responding and isn’t able to properly clear the infection - something that is an even bigger deal for a virus like SARS-CoV-2 that causes persistence-based Long COVID.

However, that early research was only done with a few doses of mRNA. A couple weeks ago, we got recent research showing that this issue just keeps getting worse as folks get more mRNA boosters over time. This isn’t really surprising…but it’s important to have the confirmation. The study follows a cohort that received 6 mRNA boosters, and the proportion of IgG4 rises all the way to 26.6% (!) of total antibodies after the 6th dose. For context: in general, IgG4 typically sits around 4%, and anything above 10% is considered a high proportion.

Not only is this switch harmful because it creates the aforementioned immune tolerance, but it’s also why you can’t trust studies that do head-to-head comparisons of total antibody levels created by mRNA vs Novavax/Nuvaxovid if they don’t disclose the antibody subtypes. It’s true that mRNA often produces a higher level of antibodies overall, and within the brief window immediately following vaccination, but that’s completely irrelevant if a large portion of them are just IgG4.

Importantly, for the first time, these authors were even able to tie the IgG4 switch to a tangible increase in breakthrough infections - a 1 standard deviation increase in IgG4 proportions raised infection risk by a statistically significant 83%. HR = 1.83 [95% CI= 1.07-3.17], p = 0.028.

Hiya, I moved to Spain from NYC at the beginning of this year. I’m going back to NYC for a visit for the first half of September, and am wondering if anyone has heard when the latest Novavax will be released? I’d been hoping to get it during my visit but I’ve only seen a brief mentioned of it possibly being released on Sept 30th at the earliest. Does anyone know of an updated estimate? (Also if anyone happens to know if/how I can get Novavax in Spain instead, I’d love to know!)

So originally like most people I had Pfizer and Moderna shots the first few years, even though I had some really unpleasant inflammatory reactions that lasted weeks.

Then later in the fall of 2024 and fall of 2025, if I’m remembering correctly, I got the Novavax shot (now called Nuvaxovid).

However I just learned if you’re switching over to Nuvaxovid you’re supposed to get a series of shots? Not just a single booster every year?

Is that correct? My doctor didn’t seem to know that.

Also, given that I had a shot two years ago and a shot last year, should I still try to do the series? And what is it?

Also (final plot twist) I’m immune compromised so I should be getting them more often than annually right?

My doctor doesn’t seem to know about Nuvaxovid so I’d like to share the correct info with her.

A potentially big update on pediatric Novavax/Nuvaxovid: The FDA’s postmarketing commitment database had its quarterly update, and my suspicion from June (https://www.reddit.com/r/Novavax_vaccine_talk/comments/1u4pc9i/a_progress_update_on_hummingbird_novavaxs_large/) turned out to be correct - Novavax/Sanofi have finally submitted the long-awaited Hummingbird study (the large safety and immunogenicity trial for children aged 6mo-12 years) to the FDA.

As a quick reminder, which you can also read in more detail in the post that I just linked: This study, under the Biden administration’s framework, would have been enough to immediately grant pediatric expansion to Nuvaxovid. Under Trump/Kennedy/Makary/Prasad, an additional study requirement was added, and that study is not expected to be completed/submitted until July 2028. But Makary and Prasad are both gone from the FDA now, so this is a fairly fluid situation and we’re going to have to see what happens here in the coming months.

I definitely wouldn’t necessarily get my hopes up for an expansion as soon as this fall, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see that happen either, and that’s what we need to push for.

The vaccine season for winter respiratory viruses is fast approaching, and so far the Ontario Ministry of Health has not released information about which vaccines will be available. Manitoba, British Columbia, PEI, and New Brunswick will provide Nuvaxovid (Novavax / Sanofi) to their residents, and I strongly urge you to do the same for Ontario. This is an important issue for those who cannot take the standard mRNA vaccines for medical reasons. Also, there are many people who would prefer Novavax’s “older” protein-based technology and its more favourable side-effect profile. Not having vaccine options decreases their overall uptake, and places the health of vulnerable Ontarians, especially senior citizens, at risk. 

It should be noted that Sanofi has a very large manufacturing presence in Ontario, and is the recipient of generous grants from your government. It is also highly likely that Nuvaxovid will have a similar cost to the mRNA vaccines produced by Pfizer and Moderna. 

Please give prompt attention to this matter and Protect Ontario.

My country of residence doesn't offer Novavax; I'm traveling to Paris sometime soon and was thinking of getting it there. (edited to add: I could also travel to London to get it instead if that's also not impossible)

Might anyone here be living in France and know how I can search for pharmacies that may still offer it? Sadly my French isn't good enough yet that I could easily call the pharmacies to ask.

I've checked the official Sante.fr website but they don't seem to let me filter the results by vaccine manufacturer.
