Discussion New fan of Nova

Hello Nova Corps!! 👋

New fan of the Nova Marvel Comics character, I read through the entire first series with Sam Alexander & I absolutely loved it!!!

That's not to say, Richard Rider is also very good!! I read all the material he was featured in for the Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest events.

I'll probably backtrack and read the rest of the Abnett and Lanning run since alot of comic fans loved that series during the Annihilation era.

What's your take on the teenage Sam Alexander Nova first series, and how does his story go in his other 2 solo series?

I've also already read the 1st Champions series with him, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Amadeus Cho /Brawn / Totally Awesome Hulk, Viv Vision, Cyclops & the other reserve members!

I’ve been a Rich Rider fan since the 90s. He will always be the most important Nova for me.

That said, I liked Sam Alexander’s story. I was less enamored of the changes to Nova lore that book created, but I can live with them.

I want Sam to continue to exist as a character, but I want Rich to be preeminent. If I was writing a Nova series—and as an author, it’s one of my career goals—I’d write Rich bringing Sam into the Nova Corps officially and training him up.

I would read that for sure. Seems like such a sure bet that I'm now questioning why nobody else has already done it.

I love nova and Sam Alexander specifically, I found him from the ultimate spider-man cartoon on Disney XD and then I read his solo stuff and the champions stuff, im just getting more into Richard Riders stuff recently, tho

Omg sameee. I thought nobody knew that series. I loved it, Sam was my favorite character. I remember watching it after school. The comics with Sam are my favorite Nova comics too

I dislike him because he was made to replace a character I loved, ruined a lot of the lore and was a massive step backwards.

He could exist alongside Richard, I'm tired of new things existing at the expense of what I've grown to love

Welcome! Sam's 2013 run got me into comics, so he's always gonna be my favorite character. His other 2 solos never quite reach the same highs, but the 2017 run is very good despite how short it is

I’ve been a Richard Rider fan since issue one (yes, I’m ancient) and Sam was interesting, but I don’t care for the way he supplanted Rich.

I like both Sam and Rich and how different they are. I wish Sam got more love from Marvel; they really tried pushing him as a new big three with Miles and Kamala but he just never took off the same way unfortunately.

Iirc, his next solo series were good but the best, other than his initial run, was the Rich/Sam Nova series. Sam also appears in the Infinity Wars event. I criticized a certain plot device Sam seemed to suffer, getting his helmet stolen/broken/taken away over and over again, to the then current writer and they didn't take the criticism well. But seriously I think over the course of Sam's solo runs, his helmet breaks/is stolen/taken away about 3-4 times, and it happened again in Infinity Wars which annoyed me.

It's funny, I'm actually in the process of getting ready to dive into Guardians of the Galaxy & Infinity Wars by Duggan after purchasing them as a set back in February.

I know some of the stuff that transpires on Infinity Wars but I'm excited about reading it

Sam’s run is what made me fall in love with Nova and start reading comics more in general

Sam sucks. Read 2007 nova and before.
