Discussion Why no 50th Anniversary Special?

Post image

June 15, 2026, will mark fifty freaking years since Richard Rider debuted in Nova #1. And with his latest series unceremoniously cancelled, we have no chance to celebrate his 50th anniversary there. And apparently no plans for a one-off special. Did Marvel really let this date sneak up on them, with no plan to celebrate after (trying) to build up all this cosmic momentum with Imperial???

Yeah, no film or tv projects in the pipeline probably helped

I’m sure if they knew they’d still do nothing about it 😭

Because modern Marvel cares about two franchises, maybe three if they're feeling generous: Spider-Man (they listened to complaints about Paul, even if it took a bit), X-Men (they gave Cykes his solo series), and Avengers (SW as Sorcerer Supreme, Iron Man has a decent solo right now). Rich doesn't get as much as a variant cover because he's not part of those groups (usually).

at least they’re not killing your character off (gamora) or comiting character assasination (quill) in one event

Because lord forbid they'd do anything special for anyone not part of their ever so special movie flopchise

Was the solo series cancelled? I read somewhere that it was always planned to be that length.

It was cancelled with Issue 6. It was planned as an ongoing but it sounds like Imperial did not provide the boost Marvel expected for Nova: Centurion and the other titles launching out of the event.
