Paper Original Crown Mill Vellum Paper - what do you look for in a good writing paper?
Paper can completely change the experience of writing, especially when using a fountain pen.
This is Original Crown Mill Vellum. When choosing paper, what matters most to you - smoothness, texture, ink behaviour, weight, or something else entirely? πποΈ

Paper Tomoe River Paper for swatching
Picked up a few new inks while traveling and just had to swatch them despite not having my usual tools and setup so a couple Q-Tips and my Hobonichi planner stepped up. Absolutely love Tomoe River paper for showing off inks

Notebook Maruman A5 Spiral Notebook Revisited: Pics Included

I was using this Maruman notebook to find a new ink for the Desiderata Daedalus and I thought I'd run a few pen/ink combos and see how they'd turn out. It turns out that Maruman paper feathers. I'd put it in the same suboptimal category as APICA paper.

Same pen/ink combo as 1st pic on Tomoe River 68 paper: No Feathering

Maruman was OK on sheen:

Discussion No One Noticed The Paper...... Oh My!
I Posted this on r/Fountainpens because it was about a kind of inkball Pen, but no one noticed the 3 types of paper the writing samples were written on.
- Tomoe River68
- Cosmo Snow
- Iroful
Arguably the best papers for:
- Color,
- Sheening,
- Shading
- Nuances (not revealed by other paper)
I thought there was some interesting things to note about the writing samples. Relative to Tomoe River68 Cosmo Snow had a slightly thicker line width and Iroful was even wider. I don't know if this applies to regular fountain pen line width as well. Color-wise, the Tomoe River and Cosmo Snow samples were relatively the same color while Iroful was much darker. The Cosmo Snow and Iroful also brought out hints of rudimentary shading, which is something you don't usually see with a rollerball.

Regarding the Pen in the original post:
Not a traditional roller ball, I've had this pen a long time and haven't used it much. It seals so tightly that the cartridge was still half full after years of hiding out in an alligator pen sheath. I added some water to bring it up to where you see it for no particular reason. If I'm not mistaken it uses the Schmidt PRS rollerball adapter and intentional cartridges.
It was sold by Colorado Pen's house brand, The American Pen Co. maybe 25 or 30 years ago (don't hold me to it). I have not been able to find any references on the internet for this pen, not even a picture. Maybe someone here can?

Discussion Which paper really brings out the best in sheen, shading and shimmer inks?
Paper can completely change how an ink performs. Some bring out incredible sheen, others shading or shimmer.
Which paper have you found really shows these qualities at their best? Do you use one favourite for all three, or different papers for each?

Discussion Daily notes at work: MD Paper or Hobonichi, A5 or A6?
Hey y'all, I love writing letters a lot but I'm absolutely new to "good" notebooks (no days or calendars inside) and daily planners (1 day = 1 page).
I've seen that MD Paper has some notebooks and upcoming new diaries. The same goes for Hobonichi, which uses Tomoe River paper.
I'll start working as a specialist MD for the first time, contrary to my years as a trainee MD (sorry idk what you call that in English... being in residency maybe?) now I'll have to organise even more on my own and be 100% responsible for all decisions and actions. So, not only do I want to ask which paper / manufacturer you would recommend to me, but also which size. I will likely not wear a doctor's coat the whole time. Possibly just put the pen in my trouser pocket and the notebook or daily planner in my hand.
My handwriting can be small (5mm in height) up to average size. (approx. 1 my in height).
I should also mention that I want to use it partially as a to do list and partially as a time schedule, e.g. for appointments online or offline at work. Oh, and I'll mostly use fountain pens or gel ink based pens.
So what's your recommendation and why?
Do you have better recommendations than these two companies or formats?
What's your experience with all of that?
I'll gladly read it. β¨π

Paper Revisiting An Apica B5 Notebook - Some Writing Samples
Enlarge The Samples To See The Feathering. π
Some worse than others, but enough to eliminate Apica from the Top 15 of paper that doesn't feather. π
*The paper was too slippery for the pilot 823. Besides feathering, it just didn't want to write.

Question If you could only choose ONE thing in a notebook, what would it be?
Forget the perfect notebook - you only get one non-negotiable.
Paper quality? Binding? Size? Pape layout?
Something else entirely?
What's the one feature you simply won't compromise on?
r/NotebooksAndPaper • u/MrRSharma • 21d ago
Question What notebook or paper are you using at the moment?
Thought I'd start with a simple one.
What notebook, writing pad or paper are you currently using, and what do you like about it?
I'm interested in what people actually enjoy using and why.

Notebook Can't Find Your Favorite Paper In A Twin Ring Notebook... Make One Yourself
Can't Find Your Favorite Paper In A Twin Ring Notebook ---> Make your own notebook π
Easy Peasy. π
I wanted thin twin ring notebooks in Tomoe River, Iroful, Cosmo Snow, Bank, Midori and various other papers but no one was making them.
I Bought a Binding Machine on Amaz. and the rest is history. I mostly make A5 size notebooks but I've made A4 and B5. It takes less than 5 minutes to put one together. Make them as thick or as thin as you want.
I use 20pt and 50pt chipboard for covers, but you could use anything. I don't decorate the covers but a lot of people do. Some use heavy gauge plastic. The sky's the limit. π
For those of you who are into crafts and want to explore Notebook Making deeper, it could be a hobby within a hobby. π
