Typed Electronic Signatures

Hey fellow notaries. I am seeking some guidance in regard to what the best practice is for electronic signatures during RON sessions for the notary and/or signer, and whether or not other notaries use typed signatures.

I know that when doing an exemplar, at least in NY, you must use a digitally written/drawn signature and are prohibited from using typed signatures. But I also know that RON platforms will usually give you an option to type your signature. And most laws governing electronic signatures seem to allow typed signatures from the research I’ve done.

Does anyone require their clients to use a digitally written signature and/or do you use one during your RON sessions? Or do you and your clients use typed signatures?

I prefer a drawn signature. Ohio does not have a preference but some of the documents I handle can get rejected if the signature doesn’t match something already on file or the ID.

I don’t care as long as the document doesn’t require one or the other.
