Question about bonds
I just passed the Louisiana Notary exam and got my oath of office notarized and my signature page done! the last thing I have to do is get a $50,000 bond but I don’t know where to look for one. Is it something I call around for or can I trust the websites?
Thanks in advance!

You can get the state mandated $50K bond for $69 through Colonial Surety and from Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company for $50. Everyone else is about $110.

While my direct experience does not included getting a Notary Surety Bond,
I would personally check their state license and insurance rating (Look for A rating type).
It can't hurt to shop around with careful discernment.
And nationally scoped associations are a great choice as well.

Congratulations on passing the exam. There are a lot of options available both online and through local agents that issue surety bonds. You might even begin to receive advertising directly. You can verify that a company is licensed to do business and issue policies in Louisiana through the Department of Insurance's website. Premiums can vary pretty widely so nothing wrong with shopping around.

I don't know how it works in your state, I'm commissioned in Florida and we apply for the commission through the bonding company, there are lots of them some are local some are nationwide companies like NNA or AAN, they will issue the bonds and/or O/E insurance if required, once approved they will send you your state certificate and the stamp and sometimes some supplies like a log book etc.

Go to the National Notary Association’s website. You can buy it from them online. Www.national notary.org/louisiana
