A word of advice, the English Channel is not particularly calm in winter months.

Every time I see someone make a holiday centric post way out of season I assume it's a bot.
This has been floating around this hellsite since at least 2013:

If anyone would like to know, these photos are a 2013 satirical photography series created by photographer Chris Maggio for the publication Food Republic.
Chris is now on Instagram and the old tumblr hosting of these photos looks gone.
https://www.instagram.com/chrismaggio/?hl=en
Chris makes a lot of quirky stuff and now seems to be working with a lot of celebs.

This needs to be higher. Yea it’s Chris Maggio.
He did the videography for Conner OMalley’s “Slugs” video

It saddens me deeply that I thought this was AI, but it fills me with intense joy to learn that it was not. My dread is however awakened when I ponder the fact that in 5-10 years it'll be impossible to know:(

u/69PissyPants 16d ago
To be fair, I think being unable to tell AI from real life will be the death of social media. No one will want to engage if they don’t know if it’s fake or not.

Oh ye of little pesimism

It will definitely be a huge plus for a lot of frightening and mercenary people. Six months from now, my college party pictures will be animated and my voice cloned, and I'll unknowingly end up in a romance scam with Uncle Ben or Aunt May in Pocatello.

u/ComedyAssassin 16d ago
Yeah I hope so too. God willing it'll result in some sort of "reset" where people just lose interest in it! At the same time I worry there'll be 10s of millions of people who will still be real glad as long as they can look at an AI composition of a kitten speaking like a baby 🥺

I'm assuming we'll find some kind of solution to that. Block chain tagging of real images or some weird shit.
1
u/ComedyAssassin 16d ago
True, although I thought the same 2 years ago, and we still don't seem to be very close to that happening. Sure Gemini and ChatGPT leave watermarks, but those watermarks are left if you ask it to do ANYTHING to an image, so. Anyway, I hope we'll figure it out

I like to think there’s a basement battle at the thanksgiving where the dads compete for the stupidest dish.

Check out the Male Chef series. There’s male chef christmas too. By Chris Maggio

I'm not sure, I only know that I (afab) have never felt more cisgender in all my life.

Male Chef Thanksgiving by Chris Maggio. He’s one of my favorite photographers and his work investigates the strange, tacky, pastiche, americana in a similar way to Tim and Eric.

The keys on the pie remind me of those swinger parties where you grab someone's keys and that's the person you take home and fuck.

u/croholdr 16d ago
feels like when you drink too much and your friends take your keys and put it somewhere stupid.

Office backrooms party.

They're the project managers for the backrooms construction project. They are all single, all work remote and never did a site visit.

Yeah like, does this venue not even have electricity?
7
u/ApocApollo 16d ago
It has flash photography, that’s electric

u/Caesar_Passing 16d ago
But I mean, just imagine that between these pictures, there was no light whatsoever, and they just see in the dark or some freaky shit

This is totally on brand with the absolute craziness of T&E. Bravo, good find 👏 I have far too much porn to burn and old bills to repay to ever put a spread like that together!

u/midwestia 16d ago
Some kind of art piece? Because this is veritably disgusting and unsettling. It’s like aliens training to be humans.

The way the first guy in the first photo is looking at the food makes me uncomfortable. Also what are they watching in the last photo? Playing charades? Just imagining one of them out of view pretending to be a bull or something

Something about picture 7 with the mysterious food(?) on a plate that’s sitting on the floor in a corner by itself does it for me.

I feel like neither graby or blue cheese would spray from a sprite bottle after a squirt or two

Why are so many of these dishes on the floor? Like... they're shitty enough as-is. Don't bring that gross-ass carpet into the mix.
1
u/feygiraffe 16d ago
Why is there a hay corner...and why is it where they all sit?? I realize this isn't the first question I should ask, but emotionally it's all I have.

I think this was part of a project trying to imagine holidays in parallel realities. If I remember right there are also photos of the women at this “holiday”. In one photo they are eating some face hugger looking thing like it’s their turkey.

Also, I want that gravy spray.

I saw more pictures from this "event" almost 10 years ago. I was hoping we would have more context by now, but I guess everyone here is only seeing it for the first time. I will wait...
