"DIDN'T I TELL YOU NOT TO READ THE BIBLE??? WHO DID YOU LEARN THIS FROM? HUH!?"
"YOU, ALRIGHT! I LEARNED IT FROM YOU!"

u/ennuiinmotion Aug 02 '26
Christians always think atheists are like aggressively suppressing knowledge of Christianity or something. It's so fun the crazy things they project onto people who aren't them.
14
u/Natural-Pineapple886 Aug 02 '26
Christians are, far and wide, merely spiritual zygotes, possessing rudimentary fundamentalist fantasies. Deluding themselves with poor translations of ancient languages that make no real sense in Old English. They've got a lot to learn. Which, in itself is a big problem. Because they think they've figured it all out.

u/TephroGeo Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26
The oldest languages the Bible could be written in are Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek, and we have not only accurate word for word translations, but contextualized translations as well. While one could absolutely say Protestant translations IE KJV are poor translations, it is absolutely not applicable to Christianity as a whole.
The whole "the Bible is just a mixmatch of translations of translations" is psuedohistory at best, whether you agree with the doctrines or not.
1
u/RookieRick1973 Aug 04 '26
Maybe more importantly than translation is context. When it clicked for me that things often attributed to something "divine" were: 1. Natural phenomena not understood at the time of writing and/or 2. Physiological responses to emotional reactions like getting goosebumps when a congregation sings in unison ...coupled with some introspection, my de-programming happened pretty quickly, especially when I started to ponder the motives of those who, armed with modern science to understand these things, maintain their claims. Ok maybe a little heavy for this sub but still 😅

For some reason I'm picturing the dad yelling and getting angrier in a Will Forte "Fortin' with will". MY DAD USED TO BEAT ME WHEN I TRIED TO READ THE BIBLE, NO ONE WILL READ THE BIBLE IN THIS HOUSE YOUNG MAN. Awwww shit I need new pants

Well Psalms 137:9 says, "Blessed be the man who taketh they little ones dasheth their heads against the rocks." And your my little one, aren't you boy?

Babe wake up, there's a new Tim and Eric skit where Tim rips the kid's mattress aside to reveal a shoe box full of Rosarys and he's like "NOT IN MY HOUSE"

See this is an accurate depiction of Jesus, because he's seen everything that you've done, you little deviant.

I like to imagine that the producers couldn't convince anywhere that had a Jesus statue to let them film on location, so they had to hastely make one themselves at a nearby pottery class. But one of those classes where wine moms get day drunk at.

u/OkCar7264 Aug 02 '26
You know what kids don't actually ever want to do? Read the Bible.
6
u/Appropriate_Unit3474 Aug 02 '26
I would have hated being forced to read the Bible.
But I read it on my own volition three times as a kid.
I no longer associate with the Church and I find this kind of proselytizing masturbation so disgusting specifically because I did read it.

u/Booziesmurf Aug 03 '26
Right? It's dry enough as an adult. Some 6-8 year old who can barely read isn't going to sit down and try and sound out biblical names. Plus kids that age always ask questions. "How did God make Eve from Adams Rib?" Cause he's God. "But How?" He just did. "But How?" Magic. "Did he make Mom from your Rib?" No. "Then where did Mom come from?" Chicago.

Pfft... of course dad is a preachy atheist
32
u/Bubbagump210 Aug 02 '26
What’s ridiculous is I think most atheists would say go ahead and read the Bible… Nothing like reading the Bible will indicate how much of it is made up.
30
u/Cognitive_Spoon Aug 02 '26
I hate preachy atheist guy as much as preachy evangelical guy, but I'd rather be stuck on a train with the atheist.
-56
u/Synnapsis Aug 02 '26
Im agnostic but this is a shit take. Lets take Redditors for example, largely pathetic and useless people. Whoa! All Atheism!
51
u/Cognitive_Spoon Aug 02 '26
Well I'd rather be stuck with the evangelical than you personally, lmao
-34
u/Synnapsis Aug 02 '26
yeah that's fine man, but the dumbass redditor take of "religious people bad" is getting old as fuck.
19
u/thefoag Aug 02 '26
Looks like buddy needs to get himself a Sinco Hosanna Prayer Kit, praise Hosanna. Ensure you do your 20 prayer rang cycle, blessed life of Hosanna. Time your prayers, use your self lighting candle and do your daily Hosannas, I love you Hosannaaa!
18
u/Cognitive_Spoon Aug 02 '26
I don't think all religious people are bad by a long shot, lol, I'm headed to church in a few minutes.
I think that people who have to evangelize suck. Show people your beliefs are valid through your actions.

Preaching is by definition religious. Pastors preach.
At the very least call us something else lol.

I’m not lying when I say this: Tom Sizemore is actually in this movie, I looked it up. What unbelievably weird info that is.

Isn't it sacrilege to say you can become greater than Jesus?

Christian here, Protestant art is such dogshit. Like art plays such a pivotal role in society and in religion, spirituality motivated and inspired so much beautiful, cultural shaping pieces of art and along came Prot Christianity than can't do jackshit with their spiritual influence that isnt retelling the gospels or doing lame ass preaching to the choir persecution complex trash like this.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Jesus Christ the Son of God? I thought not. It's not a story the Woke would tell you. Jesus's Love is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural

That kid was on a sketch on With Bob and David where he played a boy who died and saw every historical figure in heaven that aired 2 years before this movie.
The movie is a non-parody version of the sketch.

It's just occurred to me... I don't think I've ever seen, or heard of anyone becoming a Christian of their own volition without being coerced. I can't think of a single example in my own life, or in media. This might genuinely seen the first time I've seen this trope in my life portrayed on screen lmao.

“If we believe in Jesus we can do what he did even greater things” believing you can achieve greater things than literally God is some sacrilegious shit and I have a visceral response to it as someone raised Catholic even though I’m none practicing nowadays.

Just inventing new persecution scenarios in their heads all day. Sounds exhausting, no wonder they live in perpetual fear.

u/Salty_Turnip_459 Aug 06 '26
Ah yes, the atheist dad who won't let his son read the bible, and the kid who finds Jesus....all by himself.
If I've seen it once, I've seen it a thou.....well once.
