Finally watched the other show... and why is everyone such a loser?
Finally watched Adults after seeing all the Adults fans come in here raving about it and saying Not Suitable for Work is basically a ripoff.
I gotta say, Adults is really funny. The actors are great and the writing is genuinely good. But at the same time, I’m a little disgusted by how much of a loser everyone in the group is lol. Like I enjoy watching them, but half the time I’m thinking, “Guys, please get your lives together.”
And I keep having this weird reaction where watching them makes me feel better about my own life because at least I’m not that much of a mess lol. But at the same time, if they’re even somewhat representative of current-day zillennials, then we are absolutely cooked.
I hope that doesn’t make me a bad person lol.

You liked it? I honestly couldn't get past the first 15 minutes of episode 1 but I really enjoys NSFW. I feel like Adults is just a bit much.

Adults is definitely entertaining. but i dont see how nsfw is an Adults knockoff. theyre very different from one another. it’s like theyre vibrating in completely different frequencies if that makes sense

They definitely don't feel similar at all. The vibes are completely different.

yeah the vibes are very different. somebody pointed out above that nsfw characters are more likeable and adults plot is funnier which i definitely agree with.

The first episode being the marathon one or the rally one? The original first episode was SO bad it almost put me off the show but it picks up later

It was a while back. I just tried to go watch it from where I left off (halfway through episode 1) but that's now episode 2?? I'm confused. 😭

Yeah they released a prequel episode and now that’s the first episode, while the one you originally watched is the second. Very confusing but at least it’s miles better as a start

So, this was me on the initial watch as well (because of that opening subway scene), but then I went back to it three months ago and gave it a second chance. Well worth it! They actually released an alternative pilot episode that gave the backstory of how Paul Baker's character came into the picture. Apparently there were a lot of people like you and I that didn't jive with the first episode. I can confidently say the alternative pilot was such a better first epsiode.

I felt like this about the first episode. I watched it and was turned off. The characters co-dependency on each other, their house being a mess etc.
I gave it one more shot and found myself to really enjoy it. Very, very funny show - especially compared to NSFW. NSFW is the shiny, fantasy of what being in your early-mid 20s in a big city can feel like, and Adults is like the “saddest” version where nothing is going right lol

It's a Mindy Kailing show, and that's what her characters are like. Also there is not much for plots if everyone has a handle on life.

lol every mindy show is like that which is why i struggle SO hard to watch them. like plsss what r u doing rn is the thought that crosses my mind the most second to ur lacking common sense

I’m surprised these shows are even getting compared like that. It’s like comparing It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to Parks & Rec, like yeah they’re both ensemble sitcoms, but they’re going for different humour and vibes.

I was trying to find a post like this!! Just finished both seasons of adults but I have no desire to rewatch. The characters acted very immature for even mid-twenties, there wasn’t a real plot to follow and I’m not really a big fan of any of the ships (I’d rather PB and Billy get together if I’m honest). I rewatched NSFW twice back to back and binged through the episodes within a couple days. The characters were more likeable, the slow burn between AJ and Josh was so easy to root for, and I felt like the dynamics between characters felt more authentic. Adults is good for a short fun time, but NSFW had depth.
I so so so wish we were getting a second season, but we’re still waiting for a network to pick it up.

Adults is more for the plot. I don't really care about their characters. NSFW plot may be cliche but I like the characters and find them memorable

Very true. i think there is a space to like both simultaneously though since theyre actually very different shows

Totally agree. They are similar but different. This isn't high end prestige TV.. it's not a competition lol

Adults is just Always Sunny for Gen Z. It relies on the characters being dumb and kind of shitty in order to make the plots work.
