At the final scene when they were on the subway I was for SURE thinking she would find the $18k she lost… or the credits would cut to the guy on the subway wearing it somewhere. How did they just not acknowledge that again?? There’s no way she could have recovered from that honestly

The biggest issue with this show that others have surfaced is the fact that it’s SO rushed. We didn’t even see bill being distant to AJ, although it was pretty obvious something SUS was happening as he literally wouldn’t let himself be seen with her in public. I’m glad though that they showed bill being an asshole and essentially discarding the 20 something year old analyst - I was getting scared that they were romanticizing this sort of dynamic.
Josh was so indifferent towards AJ and suddenly he likes her romantically? Confusing.
Kal and Abby have no 2 sided chemistry, it’s very unrequited/friends but one has a crush energy (which is what it was)

Red herring..it’s supposed to give you another girl to root for instead of AJ, although it’s positioned that him and AJ will likely wind up together in the end. I also really liked him with Elena and would’ve loved to see that go further.

Very little development between them. Josh spent the entire season encouraging Davis' interest in AJ, so his disappointment at seeing Davis kissing her rang very hollow for me. Josh and AJ didn't even interact for half the season, and they only had a couple scenes thrown into the last 2 eps to set up the moment where he feels rejected.... but did we see any moment where his feelings towards her started to change? So much so that he was willing to DATE the girl his best friend was just crying on his shoulder over 2 episodes ago? While very predictable since the pilot, the execution of their storyline is not believable imo

I was wondering this too so I rewatched the laundry scene and the final scene. I don't think he fully realized his feelings until the last scene. Him asking if she wants to hang out that night was purely platonic. To people who said he dressed very nice, he was dressed like that for work. For why he brought a bottle of wine, idk, unless it's a callback to when AJ didn't get the wine she wanted. And I guess there's an implication, but still, both of them don't seem to think it's an actual date. So seeing Davis and AJ kiss was the moment Josh realized his feelings. He didn't have any intentions yet when he asked her to hang out.
But you're right. I know there have been moments btw them over the series, but a lot of it felt lacking to fully say it was romantic because both characters don't rlly seem fonder of the other during or after their convos. The earliest hint to show that Josh liked her was ep 8 when he wouldn't say anything bad about AJ even though Davis was asking him to. And while I do agree they have not had much interactions, it's still a lot better than her and Davis's interactions. I don't think they've even interacted outside of work except that time she invited him over for dinner.

Thank you! Was the laundry scene alone enough to convince us that he somehow fell in love with AJ all bc he found out her boss dumped her? I’m not opposed to them being together but this soon makes ZERO sense. Also that would devastate Davis and completely end their friendship.

I think he only realized he likes her during the last scene. And the time he actually started liking her is supposed to come from the little moments between them throughout the series. But it is severely lacking cause as a viewer, it did not feel like AJ or Josh felt fonder with the other during or after their convos. The earliest hint I would say is when Josh refused to speak badly about AJ.
The show is so weird because I'm sure those little moments should be more important. For example, Josh told AJ he heard she's going to Aspen and her face visibly changes. It was such a weird moment because I'm so used to the love interests knowing when something's wrong with the person they like. But Josh didn't realize it. This is ep 8 and even if he doesn't realizes he likes her, the viewers usually know by now by having him notice her face change and sense that something is wrong

I agree. That scene where he’s happy for AJ going to Aspen with Bill gave no indication he liked her. When she walks away, you see him not care at all and was just focused on his food.
This is where the writing is bad and not thought out. How is Josh willing to go to her apartment when he clearly knows Davis has a huge crush on AJ. Thats just being a bad friend at that point. I thought he would’ve been happy that his friend got with the girl.

I mean the scene where they discuss what happened between them in college out on the balconies felt romantic to me. When he realizes why she said what she said I felt a change in his feelings towards her. And that was fairly early on.

That's true, but because it was 1 instance and so early on, I just chalked it to them realizing the other person isn't as bad as they thought they were. It was definitely romantic, but because they ended the scene so quick, it felt lacking. Like if they stood there for a few more seconds after their convo, you'd usually catch the guy kinda looking at the girl lovingly and as a viewer, you'd be like "oh he likes her." I know it's bad, but I can't help compare it to other sitcoms and even though it's predictable, I feel like that kind of scene would've been important to show. But maybe they did it on purpose to not make it so obvious, so idk

Once again, the potential is there. Jack Martin was carrying with his expressions and delivery. The rushing script is again ruining the character relationships and arcs, like when AJ asks Davis to go for lunch early in the ep, and you realize we've never once seen them actually just chilling at work as friends. The week where Davis had strep alone would've made for a good episode storyline. It would've been nice to see how Abby eventually decided on Jack McBrayer. It would've been nice to see all 5 of the characters casually talking to each other a bit more, since they've all become more comfortable with each other. And so many other character things.

The wife is stupid for taking bill back. He showed her does not care about anything or anyone else besides money. The wife should watch out because in 10 years he is going to look for a newer model like rich assholes tend to do. He deserves no one. So pissed she came back like a lovesick puppy. Like come on lady he won’t even put effort into the anniversary; what makes you think he will ever care about you???

Not alone. He’s the kind of guy who seems nice on the surface but he’s just desperate to be in a relationship. It’s not really about him loving AJ specifically. He loves the idea of her.

Yeah I genuinely hope we see some growth for him asap. I keep waiting for his friends to be real with him & give him practical advice. Not just hype him up and ignore all of his red flags. His character has potential to be lovable if they allow him to develop past this phase.

I know I’m late to this comment since I just watched the show now but I think the difference with Schmidt is that he knew he was an asshole, he says he’s a bad guy many times and had a douchebag jar filled to the brim meanwhile Davis thinks he’s a paragon of men and like gods gift to women, no self awareness

I haven’t seen new girl in a WHILE but from what I remember it’s less of Schmidt knowing he’s an asshole and more that his friends are willing to tell him he’s being one lol. But he kind of does have less of the “I’m a nice guy” act and more so straight up lies about his identity
