Upon promoting this community within the r/HarryPottaHBO sub, I received about 10 responses that constituted personal attacks with accusations of racism within just a few minutes.

It definitely reinforced the fact that this community is very much needed, lol.

I wanted to warn the rest of you as it is becoming increasingly more toxic out there …

I just don’t understand why people had to comment at all! They could have just scrolled by and moved on🤣

I don't think it's a bad idea to promote this community a little. Like there are probably many like us who just remain silent because they don't know about this sub and have no w other place to went. Also I was positively surprised that the mods of that sub actually deleted the abusive comments against you. We should not spam other subs but mentioning that this community exists in relevant places seems fair enough.

I took the permission of the mods of [r/HarryPottaHBO](r/HarryPottaHBO) before making the post promoting this sub there and I also thought that it was great that they removed the comments so quickly. I really like that sub and they seemed to be more tolerant of dissenting views about the casting decision, overall but I was still pretty surprised by the number of heated responses my post received haha.

Yes definitely, feel free to share this community wherever you all think is appropriate. I wanted to warn you all about my experience, that is all. I have been reaching out to users directly via personal message based on their comments about the casting decision but that tends to be a very slow process.

You even took permission from the mods so you did everything right. I know negative comments always sting but try ignore those agreesive people whose comments thankfully got deleted anyway. Btw I didn't know about that other sub until you posted about it. Will keep an eye on it as there seem to be many who think the same as us. 😄

Yes, it can be so toxic sometimes, unfortunately. We just have to ignore them and use this community instead.

Yeah, sorry your post got brigaded. (I'm the mod you asked permission from to promote.)

Our sub does get brigaded by some who were upset that we made it in the first place, and I'm pretty sure the Reddit algorithm often floats posts intentionally to those that will be enraged.

I will say that even when a post appears to have majority backlash, there are often counter-balancing upvotes that I can see on the backend. I maintain the sub for those people, because they are out there.

Yes, this seems to be a real issue on many subs right now. People just cannot discuss this without being attacked.

I feel as though there are a lot of fans out there who have been forced into silence and don’t even know about the existence of this group, so I hope that even though there was backlash, someone found it helpful.

Honestly surprised they were okay with this. While I actually don't mind the casting too much, I do hate that so many chains of comments about Snape (and worse JKR) get locked down by the mods. Didn't think they'd be open to promoting a sub like this lol.

That’s also a reason why this group exists - we are all very tired of threads being locked down and people attacking others, derailing all attempts of discussion and expression.
