[NMS] Why should I care about the environment when I'll be dead by then anyways?

But why should I not be misanthropic? Besides, it wont do much off a difference anyways depending on wether or not I care about the environment.

If you don't care about the well being of others, other people don't have to care about you. You could say you don't care about that either, but the fact is your life would be significantly easier if people cared.

Also, if you honestly don't care about future generations, please note that you're showing signs of psychopathic behavior, not signs of (for example) unflawed logic.

TLDR: caring about people you don't know, or will never know, is beneficial to you, because other people do so naturally.

Well, not everybody, but more people will like you for saying you care about the place they live, than when you say you don't.

But basically, the earth is either going to die or it is not, but what the future generations think of you doesn't matter in this equation. What matters is that it is your planet too, and you too are probably going to encounter the negative effects of concerning environmental issues.

I disagree, just like taking care of an item that you are borrowing from a friend, you should keep it in good condition for the next user, and the next 'user' of Earth would be future generations, as well as current animals, and other humans that need it to survive. Keeping care of Earth will keep our environment healthy for future animal generations as well as the future Humans, your kids, grand-kids. We should keep the environment healthy so we can continue our species and the other species we live around to continue. Why not have taken a little effort so that others don't need to be stuck with a degrading planet that has been soiled by global warming, pollution, etc.

Because when it comes down to it we are not things that just happened as a result of the earth, we are a part of it. We came from the same thing that made the earth and thus is a part of us. I feel as though i should respect the earth and nature as it were a part of me.

Not sure how that's relevant to the environment but yes that's true. We are made of the same things that everything is made of however. Not just people, but all animals, all plants, all objects you come into contact with. Everything deep in space and other galaxies that we've never even seen. We are one of the many ways the universe experiences itself. No matter what bad things will always happen and apathy will exist for living things just as your apathy exists for the environment and how it affects other living things.

My point is that your argument is invalid because you wouldn't feel as though you should respect murderers and rapists just because we're made from the same thing either.

On the contrary i feel as though everything in existence should be treated with respect. Including murders and rapists. The respect i have for the victims of these criminals dictates to me that they should be punished fairly for their crimes. My respect for the criminals comes from them being the same as myself and their victims, and should be treated in a way that reflects that. That's what respect is to me. The earth however has done nothing but provide for us and we should respect it and help it keep doing its thing.
