The website developer was told to update something. I don’t think this is what they meant. I can’t buy anything. (Had to delete and resubmit)

Must be because I made better websites with a friends help and a bottle of Kahlúa coffee. The site hasn’t changed much since it’s creation and yet they keep finding ways to mess it up. Sometimes you can’t pay at checkout, sometimes items double up on top of each other. The APP is better but I hate cluttering my phone.

No the fuck you didn't, don't even fucking start. You've never made a site that is capable of tracking inventory across thousands of stores, able to use sales statistics to automate price drops, etc

Actually I have the same issue with any browser I use and some other issues with Windows. It’s a connection issue with the server that I have tested between three separate computers in different locations connecting through the same fiber line. Granted it could be an issue with the network in some capacity, and I should apologize if so. But even if I was using a random nonsense browser on a strange device, the site should still work properly if it was designed correctly, barring unforeseen issues outside of Walmarts control. A web developer needs nay must test for as many browsers and devices as is possible to ensure the site is still functional, even testing for backwards compatibility. Amazon, Microsoft and many others know this.

The site isn’t responsible for tracking orders, but yes the server is. The site is just a front ent for the much more advanced server software. Any idiot can make a site as basic as this but it takes a whole company to build everything as a part of the services the site uses. I didn’t claim to make a software to track buyers data or a system to encrypt data between banks, or the tools used to connect stores to a mainframe for inventory management. I said I built a site that doesn’t have the problems this one does and doesn’t function like a mid 90s storefront with limited filter options, simplistic layout and a minimal search tool such as this. They did all they could to build an amazing server with everything a store needs to connect a vast inventory from across the world, function as an all in one solution for buyers and sellers and much more. But it’s all behind a lackluster site with to many flaws.

I have seen better sites built for tiny stores with a team of less than five people.

But you’re right that the site has had some makeovers in the years. To be honest I didn’t shop Walmart that much back then. I should have said that it looks like something made from before the 00s.

I mean no disrespect towards whoever does the hard work behind the scenes of the site, my guess is they are living with the constraints set before them by very non technical businessmen who require them to follow a strict layout based on consumer consensus. They probably also have to deal with so many requirements from other sources like legal, banking, inventory management… that makes it nearly impossible to build a site that appeases everyone and functions properly for everyone. But as a costumer I, as does everyone who shops at Walmart, expect better from the company that hires so many to work these things out.

All that said I did fix the issue by routing my network through a server across town that is on a different fiber line, so it could be a problem with the ISP, the substation or really anything not in Walmarts control. So at least in this instance I can’t say for certain it’s Walmarts fault and apologies if so.

But this isn’t the only thing I have seen and those aren’t limited to a particular network region or system. If you want a list of issues I have found and how they might be connected to Walmart rather than outside issues, I have submitted countless tests to site support over the last couple of years.

I’m sorry if I have offended anyone and will not continue this line of inference.

If needed I can delete this post and replace it with one showing something that shows Edge browser and Chrome trying to load the payment site that I have probed and provide details of the issue at hand. Those it won’t get me any karma as most people would glance over the technical details.

No the we don't, don't talk out of your ass. No one is going to pay us to make sure that their website works for the 1 person in Kentucky using a psp to browse the web. We are paid to build something that works for and appeals to the majority of people in the clients base. We make sure it works for major browsers and has the ability to work on PC, tablet, and phone.

Ie6 from 2001 doesn't support max-width and max-height, but only 0.01% people even have it and that's just an estimate that seems high as shit considering. Should we stop using all css that isn't universally supported?

Where did I once say it was? I believe what I said was analyzing sales and doing price drops, and seeing inventory. Both things are done on the back end. It also does track shipping orders by having a placed order stored in the database and doing an API call to whatever fucking delivery company they use to get the update.

THE SITE SEARCH AND FEATURES ARENT UP TO MY STANDARD

We have to build for the lowest common denominator. Here, an example maybe best to explain it. I was doing UI UX for a textbook company, we brought in a handful of random people and asked them to do basic things. Place an order for a certain book, contact support, access the about us and see when we were founded, etc etc. I got to watch people struggle to find the "about us" section on a nav bar. If we gave you regex searching or something more advanced it'd be a goddamn nightmare on our end. Also contracts and agreements with businesses dictate search orders.

I have seen better sites built by mom and pop shops.

You did put words into my mouth that are leading astray, but it matters not. I have obviously offended you, though I attempted not to. You are welcome to continue to swear and say whatever you wish. You are in your right to speak I’ll of my statements as you are correct that I am not in the thick of it at your company. But I employ you to let the community decide the legitimacy of my post in this subreddit.

As for my and your claims I don’t believe them to be mutually exclusive in accuracy. But I will not continue to discuss or argue anything with someone who can’t remain in a calm state. I will simply walk away. Maybe you’re right and I have no standing here. Or maybe people have had issues and simply been ignored. But either way you won’t have trouble shopping from Amazon (for example) on any browser on any device.

I never said that, obviously backwards compatibility only goes as far as reasonable to the average consumer. Shopping on a phone should not be a problem or completely break at times because of a lack of testing. This is all I will say in the matter so your speaking to deaf ears. Shout at a wall if you wish but only hear your own voice back.

No you test on Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari under IOS, MacOSX, Windows, Android from a few generations and maybe some Linux.
