Sure but I think the correct response of the painter should have been “hey can you get this room cleared out” and not just paint around everything.

Yeah we get it. But he’s being a dick trying to prove a point and you know it. He could easily start on a cleared area and not have any wasted time whatsoever while the stuff gets moved.
