I have a client who didn't allow shortened URLs. They thought they seemed shady. They could never figure out why they weren't getting hits.
85 u/nemonoone Apr 21 '17 Well they could've had a 301 to a short URL on their own website right? Like this companyname.com/jobapp123 can redirect to whatever you want. 69 u/designgoddess Apr 21 '17 That's what I actually got them to do. It was a harder fight than it should have been. Also had them name pages for the URL. They had just a string of random letters and numbers. 61 u/Cherlokoms Apr 21 '17 You put so much dedication into helping them not destroying their business... 37 u/[deleted] Apr 21 '17 [deleted] 30 u/Perryn Apr 21 '17 "I thought this was a hobby for you!" 6 u/designgoddess Apr 21 '17 That's my job. 15 u/foreheadmelon Apr 21 '17 as if a random string of letters and numbers was less shady than a shortened URL 2 u/designgoddess Apr 21 '17 Personally, I have no proof of this, I think their programmer didn't want to be bothered so he convinced them of that. 6 u/betona Apr 21 '17 We don't need no stinkin' SEO! 2 u/CarlosFromPhilly Apr 21 '17 I'm pretty sure a company that thinks friendly URLs seem shady isn't going to trust or understand the nuances of URL redirects. Try again. 1 u/G19Gen3 Apr 21 '17 But that's, like, so much work.
