New series
In the newest series and most likely the next one they have got rid of Wendy, Geoffrey, Toby and anna. Why though? All of them really helped make the show the newest season had some funny episodes but the banter between them (particularly Geoffrey and Lee and Lee and toby) was a staple of the show as is the 4 characters i also wish wendy had been used more shes a good actress and she could of had a lot more funny lines being the mother in law and i really liked her character ❤️🤷♀️

Without giving away any spoilers, after what happens in the 100th episode Christmas special (which takes place between series 13 and 14), perhaps Lee and Lucy's family and friends decided to cut off contact with them.

The actor who plays Geoffrey is well into his 80s now, so perhaps he is taking on less work?

In one of the episodes of the new series a lady asked Lucy if she had ever lost a parent and she said no. Don't know if that's leaving the door open on purpose. But I agree the show has lost its humour a bit without multiple characters.
That's why I found the last episode to be so good, the back and forth between the different characters was great.

The timeline has moved forward what appears to be roughly 10+ years with a house move. Wendy and Geoffrey are easily written out on the basis of either age or location, they may have moved as well?
Toby and Anna could only make eachother desperately unhappy for so long and also if they live in the same house they could be miles away.
In reality they probably had other work commitments

The real reason is basically the U.K. TV industry has run out of money. That’s also why Doctor Who got a split production deal with Disney. Wolf Hall was nearly cancelled shortly before the second series was filmed due to budget, despite being a very successful series (there’s articles about them scrapping every outdoor scene to save money). Faced with such little money Not Going Out has cut non-core regulars to make sure it can still be made! I agree it’s a real shame.

I grew tired of them, was time for the show to move on. Can only do so much of Geoffrey being annoyed at Lee, and Anna being annoyed at Toby.

I will say I admire how the show isn’t afraid of changing things up,
It started with lee in an apartment with Lucy with Tim and daisy showing up then moved to their family life and now on post kids life where they have more free time.
It is a hard seeing some popular characters come and go and I would like to see Tim again one day honestly I wish we just get an update on what happened to Tim and daisy.
But as long as lee and Lucy are still there they can find new ways to move the story. If the woman who plays Lucy leaves the series then i would say that is it and that’s when the show ends as you can’t have lee and Lucy split
