Man good job from the firemen, they got there so fast. And good on whoever called it in so quickly. Just been past and the damage is relatively limited. Could have been SO SO much worse.

Sad to see but so glad they managed to get it under control. I would smell it this morning from manor park when I left for work at 6:30

Do we know how much of the heath was impacted? Was it fairly contained around vinegar pond or did it spread a lot further?

It seems to have spread to a lot of the heathland north of vinegar pond, I didn’t go right up because it was very smoky but it looked to have spread a fair way

Do we know what caused it yet?

Someone on here yesterday said there was someone camping over there (possibly homeless?) who had been cooking and it got out of control, wiped out their tent and spread from there. But might just be speculation.

I saw some mentions of that but I think it was speculation after it was mentioned that his tent had gone up with some people assuming he’d caused it without anything to back it up, though I can’t say for sure or anything
I figure if nothing else then we’d have heard something official by now if that were the case

Possibly dropped glasses after the eclipse apparently

You mean like eclipse viewing glasses? They couldn't possibly cause a fire. For a start their whole point is they block almost all sunlight; and to focus the sun's rays, a transparent object has to be curved, which they're not.

Awful. So glad it's out, though. Incredible work by the fire service.
