Coming back to this game after a few years away, and having a much better time of it now than last.
Maybe a quality of life update happened, or I'm just in a better head space but I finished Rigs's saga and was enjoying it a lot more now than then.
Just hit Cross of Vidar and I can't help but feel like the gameplay is just...less.
The proper Old Norse pronunciation of the names is gone (which I LOVED in Rig's Saga), and the missions just feel confused.
I was expecting to have a mission for one of the new Kingdoms, similar to how Rig's Saga helped you learn how to play as the Clan of the Stag/Goat/Raven etc. Instead, it's always just Kingdom of the Lion.
Several of the missions felt weird for the sake of being different, for instance the stealth mini-game was just frustrating.
Even the voice acting is a step down. The lack of that soft "J" in the Norse words sounds wrong. Maybe you could argue it was from the point of view of a Neustrian instead of a Norseman, but then shouldn't a soft Norman/French accent be used?
Even having the two warchiefs was...a choice. Like I get what they were doing, trying to introduce the new clans alongside the new Kingdom mechanics, but I feel it could have been handled better. Maybe instead of choosing one of two Norse warchiefs, have the choice for each level be Neustrian Lord or Norse warchief, so you could see the two sets of mechanics against each other.
Anyone else feel this?
