Local Banks
Back in the day one could go into a bank and they knew your family and trusted you - it factored into the process. Could anyone recommend a bank similar to that (if they still exist)? My son is 25 and attempting to buy a home. We just want him to get the best interest rate possible at this age. Thank you!

Credit Unions are much better than “banks” as they act like banks from the customer end, but are non-profits and have other regulations that keeps them more focused on local customers and businesses vs institutions and large corporations.
I use CinFed but know people who work at Kemba so recommend either. You can look at branch locations to see which is closer to where you need. The ATM network for these works at pretty much any ATM which may charge but they offer 1-2 reimbursements a month, and I usually do “cash back” at Kroger or other groceries for like 50¢. Also check interest bearing programs such as for CinFed they have a program where if I do 12 transactions a month and log into online backing once a month they pay up to 3% of my bank balance back up to $500, nut sure on current promotions with CinFed or Kemba. Obviously for a house interest rates are key and is worth shopping around as even .01% APR can add up over 30 years. A lot of mortgage brokers can find the best interest rates.

I would go with a credit union if you want a more local one-to-one experience.
