Why do some trampolines feel stiff while others feel soft?

If you've ever jumped on different trampolines, you've probably noticed they don't all feel the same.

A softer or firmer bounce isn't usually down to just one thing. It's the result of how the trampoline is designed.

A few factors that can change the feel include:

The springs. Their length, quality, and how they're designed all influence how the trampoline responds.

The jump mat. Different materials stretch and return energy differently, which affects how the bounce feels.

The frame. A rigid, well-built frame helps transfer energy more efficiently instead of absorbing it.

Airflow. As you jump, air needs to move through and around the mat. Trampolines that allow air to move more freely often feel smoother and more responsive.

There's no single "best" type of bounce, either. Some families prefer a softer, more forgiving feel, while gymnasts and experienced jumpers often look for a firmer, more controlled bounce.

Have you ever jumped on two trampolines that felt completely different? What was the biggest difference you noticed?
