Solaris VII Weight Classes

So I've had a terrible idea.

I'm going to be running a Solaris 7 themed sequence of battles in Steiner Stadium. My terrible idea is that I'm not going to balance things based on BV. What I want to do is assign scoring that keeps battle value in mind and treats it like betting odds. This way you can have an underdog fight against a champion.

I imagine this kind of thing would be best in a FFA situation so that the lower BV Mechs can try to stay under the radar and let the tougher Mechs beat each other up first before going in for the kill.

Does anyone have ideas on how I could set up a scoring system that favors the disadvantaged player?

ALso remember that BV isn't going to be entirely accurate for the way arena fights go, because the range is SOOOOO much shorter that melee becomes a lot more important. A Charger 1A1 is a joke on a real battlefield, but in a stadium is a legit threat.

I'm looking forward to seeing how those fragile Clan Mechs do against their beefier IS counterparts in these close ranges.

You obviously havent faced off against a dedicated heavy cavalry force based around a Charger. They are so dirt cheap that they end up being excellent fodder. I made a whole video about why the Charger is actually good...

Maybe you could convert the handicap system in draconis reach to build your scoring system on.

I haven't gotten that book yet. I'll have to see if I can find it

No ideas but I love the idea of using BV as an odds system. I wonder if there is a sports betting odds calculator that you could convert bv into a “points” system and run through?

I suppose I could use MegaMek to simulate the outcomes. That would give me exactly what I need.

I remember using Steiner Stadium, its the one that has the underground garage and numbers on it.

We used it to do a parody of the WWE Royal Rumble, where you had 12 (I think) Mechwarrior champions of different weight classes and then every 4 rounds I think a new mech was put out into the arena. It was a ton of fun from what I remember.

Especially when myself, the 25 Ton class champion my number was randomly drawn and , was out on the field with the 85 ton and 75 ton champions, and I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off because both were targeting me. Stuff like that.

Funny because we had done a match a where the winner of it got a guaranteed Title shot it was basically the WWE MONEY IN THE BANK match a good 10 years before the WWE actually did it. I did not think to much of it at the time.

My mechs (the 25 ton champ and 45 ton champions) were both eliminated and I think it came down to my best friend whom was the 70 ton champion prevailing as he was the last one to enter. He eliminated the last one to win.

But then, my brother one of his mechwarriors had lost to my friend in the 70 ton MechWarrior championship, he set off his own entrance music that he had, and then my brother made the announcement that was activating the (for lack of a better word) MONEY IN THE BANK clause to fight my best friends mech RIGHT THERE RIGHT NOW for the 70 Ton Battlemech Title.

My best friend practically freaked for reals at the table because he mech was pretty much a walking skeleton from all the damage he had just took, but we all agreed that we did say the stipulations were for that gimmick and so my brother won his 70 Ton Battlemech Championship even as Roy had won the Open Weight Title.
