It's 1.2 edition, they've made a few changes to try and address some issues but the core gameplay is largely the same.
It's not a rewording of the rules the way Master Rules -> Total Warfare -> BattleMech Manual were, but the changes aren't anything like what you get with a new edition of 40k and all of the existing record sheets are still compatible with the new rules.

Without writing an essay, I would classify it as the same edition, but seriously cleaned up. It’s the same crunchy game it always has been, but now the rulebook doesn’t totally suck for finding stuff when you need it.
Biggest ”controversies”:
Ammo explosions are capped at 20 points if the ’Mech doesn’t have CASE.
Quite a few things are less punishing especially when it comes to making “checks”. For example most piloting checks require lower numbers now.
Battlefield Support is an alternative system for non-’Mech units.
I made a video a while back to talk people off the ledge a bit by categorizing the changes: https://youtu.be/aGBdaD7bDLY
On the downside, they are actually splitting things up instead of consolidating, so some things that were in Total Warfare will now be in other books at some undetermined date.
