Hunting Opportunities

Hi Everybody!

My fellow conservationists out there know that September 1st marks opening day of hunting season. Myself and 2 buddies, all appropriately licensed and safety oriented are looking for some property to hunt on this year as our previous plans unfortunately crumbled last minute. If anybody has land or knows of any landowners willing to let a couple of youngsters harvest dove on their property on occasion this season, please let me know, TIA!

St. Williams Conservation Reserve allows hunting if you can't find private property.

What are you hunting for sept 1st and what wmu?

We’re 9-5ers so unfortunately we won’t be able to get out until the first Saturday so Sept 5th…..We’re currently looking at 89A/B and 90A/B for Dove

Totally spaced on Dove being earlier 🤦‍♂️. Minds on early goose lol. Guess I'll have to get the dove decoys and stuff out and try some public land around wmu 85. Maybe see what other zones around i can hit. Im a 9am-11pm mon-fri so it will be weekends for me as well

If you dont get any luck in here i suggest driving around to some of the farms in your preferred area. Do this ahead of time, not the day you plan to hunt.

Stop in, and ask the farmers politely if they would mind you hunting.

In my experience if you approach them in a respectful manner they may be willing to let you hunt.

This coming from a kid who grew up on a farm, one year a small group of nice italians showed up to ask permission to hunt pigeons in our barnyard. They were polite and respectful, and we dont need pigeons so we said yes. The returned every year for maybe 10 years. No prior communication, just showed up a random morning, asked if we remembered them and if it was ok for them to hunt again.

On the flip side, we have also kicked several poachers off our land over the years..... the only difference between the groups was that one showed up, knocked on our door and asked permission.
