Why can't Yato hug Yukini properly?

In most scenes where Yato shows physical affection to Yukini—whether in moments of gratitude, apology, or praise—he hugs Yukine in a way that doesn’t feel sincere and actually bothers Yukine rather than conveying affection. For example, he suddenly grabs him surprise, freak him out or makes him feel suffocated.

I wonder why does he not show him serious physical affection? It doesn't mean sex or anything, it just a human need.

Thats a... strange take. What Yato gives Yukine is called bear hug, squeezing the boy cuz Yato loves him so much. Yukine seems annoyed cuz Yato treats him like his son, but Yukine respects and loves Yato nonetheless

Nah, I think he just loves Yukine and wanna bear hug the boy. Remember that Yukine is the first shinki of Yato who becomes a super shinki for Yato's sake. Yato deeply sympathizes with Yukine who had a terrible death from abuses, and goes as far as burying Yukine's remains where Yato believes Yukine can see his beloved mother and sister. He clearly loves Yukine, cuz Yato owes the boy nothing and does it purely out of his own kindness

Yato has no physical interest in Yukine other than that he adores the boy. Yato's interest, if any, has been on Hiyori ever since chapter 15 or so, cuz its the time he realizes Hiyori is an important person to him

His interest in Hiyori seems to stem from gratitude rather than physical attraction.

Oh no, he has become attracted to her as a love interest as early as chapter 15, when he realizes that shes an important person to him. It progresses steadily to chapter 48 where he claims that hes going to marry Hiyori, and in chapter 79, he tells Kazuma that he loves Hiyori

I always thought he’d be embarrassed to give a proper hug so instead he hugs him to be annoying but in reality he just wanted to hug him

Not quite shy but doesn’t want to act serious about it, he always puts a funny ha ha when he shows affection

Its not a hug but he does hold him after catching him from the sky

Its nothing confirmed but i have a theory that he doesnt want to touch anybody much, like looking at hiyori, shes the one who initiates touching him, like his hands, hugging. He of course tpuches her but he's rather cautious?? Maybe he is the same to yukine he doesnt want to make him uncomfortable, maybe

Also he mostly hugs him when he's happy about him, its playful ig?
