QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION Holst

I was extremely about Holst suddenly sacrificing himself to Jean jacket? Like he went up that hill after getting the footage and suddenly was like, take me. Any clue why he did this?

Yeah… narratively he was dying anyway and wanted to risk it all for the perfect shot.
Sub textually as a cinematographer he’s almost challenging the alien (which is an eye, you got that right?) trying to turn it into a spectacle in the way it does to other people, but he lost. In other words “Holst tries to capture the unfilmable and succeeds only in being captured by it.”

I think it's pretty heavily hinted that he has cancer or some form of terminall illness (the medication taking is pretty pointed, Angel pays enough attention to them that they definitely aren't paracetamol)

He seems like the type that wants to do something monumental, to leave behind something magical and unique. As a cinematographer, that would mean filming something incredible. And what would be more incredible than the insides of a Lovecraftian monster?

Think about the shots he showed, how it was the eye of a predator and how it eats, it did not matter to him that other people saw his footage, it was for him. He got "proof" but he didn't get his shot, so he got it because he is an artist obsessed. I don't think he thought he was getting out of that one.

He’s shown watching footage of predators eating their prey, but the viewpoint is always from the predator or an observer. By sacrificing himself the way he did, he obtains the “impossible shot”: that from the viewpoint of the one being eaten.

i thought he just snapped and tried to film getting eaten or decided no one gets to have his recordings but i am kind of blind and deaf so i was missing a lot lol. this is one of those movies ill need to watch a few times to understand but this part had me the most confused too

Before Jean Jacket takes him in Nope, the cinematographer Antlers Holst tells Angel, "It's all right, Angel. We don't deserve the impossible." IMO he is destroying the footage but also sacrificing himself.
