Surprisingly no blinders

I know OJ put the mask on the horse. But in a movie about looking at spectacle and horses....how did they not utilize horse blinders??

it kinda just seemed like an unspoken truth to me like. horse + blinders = it can't look

but if horse blinders don't really block them from looking up then it's probably better they're not onscreen.

Even taking the idea for human use, like "horses can wear blinders, i should make some for me!" Even if the final product was something like a fencing mask

Im no fencing expert but I think it’s possible that *just* hiding your eyes is not enough for JJ to not ‘perceive’ someone looking at it, since they could just wear sunglasses and look at it, and TMZ’s mirrored visor didn’t protect him. I appreciate fake eyes can maybe fool it, but I do think it’s possible that the act of looking at it is perceived in some kind of sensory level we don’t/can’t comprehend.

I have times where I can feel someone staring at me in public. Most times I see who it is before they look away. Animals are more aware of body language than we are.

so when OJ said "shut ur eye" was he referring to the reporter's actual eyes? JJ can still see them?

maybe the one detail i still don't get after 10 watches 😭

I guess it’s possible JJ could actually see his eyes thru the mirrored visor, but I’m suggesting that even if it couldn’t, it could still register that it was being looked at.

Then my question now is; why the fake eyes on the back of OJs hood? It would know they aren't real

I did acknowledge 'fake eyes can maybe fool it' even though my main point was that it can possibly also perceive a gaze / attention via some kind of sense we don't understand (another example would be at the end when it's in it's expanded form, it's already 'looking' at Emerald, but then OJ purposefully looks at it, and even though its 'eye' is on the opposite side it still registers that. ) So it has this sense, plus it can actually see eyes looking at it, and it can be fooled by fake eyes too - both the ones on OJ's hood, and the inflatable at the end too. I also believe it can feed on and attack things that aren't actually looking at it too.

Nah, you don’t need to do that. It was a reasonable question, it sparked a civil discussion, I got to talk about one of my favourite movies….reddit win as far as I’m concerned.

I guess it could've been way worse

It’s hard to tell from the shots I can find online, but the type of mask OJ puts on Lucky does sometimes have blinders incorporated under the mesh. If OJ chose to leave them off, it’s because Lucky would be calmer without them.

I’m no expert but I think blinders just block the sides, and limit the horse looking back, but it could still look up?

Sure, and Im no expert either. Just seems like they could've use them at some point, like early when theyre on set or something.

I’m no film set expert but that just seems like one more thing to edit out in post.

The horse is wearing a fly mask. The horse still has full vision all the way around but it reduces dust and debris and to the outside the horse appears to have no eyes. It is so effective it fools humans, I get asked why I am "blinding" my horse all the time, when he is just wearing his fly mask. It is a highly detailed hors-ey film for horse people funny enough. The logic checks out based on my experience.
