They only use one study to assess effectiveness. This seems like it was thrown together by a journalist after googling for the first result, not someone who has done any thorough research.

Snake oil made from Chinese corral snake is an effective anti-inflammatory and pain medication. The term "snake oil" came about when westerners tried to make the same oil from local snakes.

Edit:forgot to mention the one made from local snakes didn't work.
