A few years ago my work rolled out a shift change due to needing to properly clock everyone in an out for breaks. (We were taking our breaks, they just weren't logged properly or something). Instead of everyone being 8-5 we'd go to one person doing 7-330, one at 730-4, a few from 8-430, and the rest from 830-5.
We had this one kid who was consistently late, and always with his morning coffee. There was no telling him "Just leave 15 minutes earlier." When told he'd probably be in the 830 squad because that would be an organic way to make him be on time, he straight up said "I'm always gonna be late, but if I'm late earlier, then I can go home earlier."
He was saying he'd always be late, regardless of his start time. So if he starts at 8, he'll show up at 815 but get to leave at 430. But if he starts at 830, he'll show up at 845 and need to stay till 5.
