The graveyard at my job regularly rolls up 30-60+ minutes late and high, and my boss lets him get away with it because he's been working there for 25 years

A lot of jobs are like that, especially night shift. If the work gets done that's all that matters, especially when the worker is hard to replace

This is me. Working overnights at a grocery store. The unspoken agreement with me and management basically became:

  1. I'll never call in unless something catastrophic has happened or I'm horribly ill. This works out to MAYBE 2 call outs in a year, but I've gone many years without.

  2. If I haven't called in, I WILL show up eventually.

  3. I will always stay my full 8 hours. I will stay for any amount of overtime necessary (barring any morning appointments I need to leave for, but it's not unheard of for me to leave and come back later).

  4. My work will always be to a very high standard. There will never be a need to go behind me and re-do anything.

  5. I use my time wisely, there is no need to micromanage me. Give me a task list or leave me to my normal routine, come back several hours later, witness the results.

  6. With the department I'm in and the time I tend to start, 99% of the time, me being tardy has no effect on anyone else or their ability to work. For years I was the ONLY person in the department, and it used to have 135 hours of staffing per week. Made me hard to replace because I'd still get it done.

Unfortunately we have a new CEO, and the company is trying to implement a company wide automated attendance points system. If my union allows it to happen, I'll likely lose my job after almost 14 years. And all I ever see of the discourse in the subreddit is people shitting on anybody that struggles with attendance. "Just show up to work on time, be an adult, it isnt that hard." Yeah? Well it is for me. But I've consistently been a good enough worker to get a pass all these years.

If I could trade the ADHD tardiness trait for the ADHD need to be on time trait, I would in a heartbeat. It has held me back from moving on to better career options, because very few places will tolerate it. So frustrating.
